The NGO points to a link between the vast gap between rich and poor and growing discontent with mainstream politics around the world
The striking contrast between the collective wealth of the world's top eight billionaires and the wealth of the world's poorest people is a clear portrayal of the growing plight of the global poor. Democracies should strive to break the grip on resources held by politicians and oligarchs. They should study the lessons of Switzerland’s approach to referendums and the democratic election system used in California. More elections and more participation by the people are absolutely essential in order to ensure social class mobility and better allocation of resources.
