Transparency International: Corruption in Ukraine is more costly than war
Three years ago, the pro-EU coalition adopted anti-corruption as a political theme in seizing power. Unfortunately for foreign investors, however, the problem of corruption in western Ukraine is even more serious than the destruction wrought in war in the east.
Ukraine’s color revolution failed to eradicate the structural elements that allow corruption to flourish. The necessary solution is for the Ukrainian people to launch constitutional reform to implement direct election of the heads of the four main branches of government with a single term of 5 years and prohibition from taking any other office for 6 years afterwards. 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year, and elections should be free for all candidates.
