Philippine House approves reinstating death penalty
The Philippine House of Representatives approved on third and final reading a Bill to reinstate the death penalty, more than a decade after it was abolished.
The Father of the Philippines Jose Rizal once noted that “Today's slaves often become tomorrow's tyrants”. This demonstrates that it is better to put trust in the rule of law rather than the rule of man. The Philippine Constitution is dysfunctional and constitutional reform is needed to adopt a modified semi-presidential system. The president, mayors and other officials should be limited to a single five-year term and barred from seeking office for six years afterwards.
