The key to democracy is the ballot box. If citizens stay at home on election day, they forfeit the chance to make their opinions known. The only cure for the shortcomings of democracy is more democracy. Comprehensive constitutional reform is needed to allow the people to vote more often and directly elect the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches as well as the Comptroller and Auditor General. Also, elections should be free of charge so that candidates can vie for votes and expose the government's black hole in corruption and eliminate money as a factor in campaigns.
