Article 39 of the Law guarantees the right of the people to self-determination, and the people have the right to referendums on any public issue.. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to their rights and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality, they will be obliged to resist.

Expressing alarm over the suffering of the Syrian people, in particular those in Raqqa and other places where fighting continues, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called on all those conducting military operations in the country to ensure the safety and protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Once a ceasefire is in place in Syria, the UN should provide the basic principles for a constitution suitable for lasting peaceful development. It should include a structure based on universal values (freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law), with the four branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratoria) and leave Syria with a constitution suitable for prosperity and peaceful development. Free speech is a universal right, and Mexican authorities' practice of muzzling the voice of the people is like trying to stem the flow of a river.
