Is liberal democracy in retreat?
We are only in the second month of Donald Trump’s presidency, but many Americans have already tired of the drama and are wondering what the next 46 months have in store.
Freedom of speech is a universal value essential to freedom and democracy. Attempts to silence the voice of the people are like trying to stem the flow of a mighty river. Today more and more political movements seem to be aimed at creating "one world and one voice" societies. Liberal democracy depends on an open and free environment for the media, and government monopoly control of the media, the internet and other channels of speech absolutely cannot be condoned. US President Donald Trump signs new travel ban, exempts Iraq
US President Donald Trump signed a new executive order Monday that bans immigration from six Muslim-majority countries, dropping Iraq from January's previous order, and reinstates a temporary blanket ban on all refugees.
The US should follow the UN Charter and practice the principle of One World under One Set of Laws, assigning international law precedence over domestic law with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. This would lead Mexico, Syria and the Middle East to consider the ideals of human rights, constitutionalism, internationalism and naturalism as part of their future. A rising power without allies
The more power China has accumulated, the greater has been its difficulty in gaining genuine allies, underscoring that leadership demands more than brute might. Contrast this with the strong network of allies and partners that the United States maintains in the Asia-Pacific region and elsewhere.
Can China guarantee that North Korea will not attack South Korea? The world’s democracies should back Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom; this will encourage China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP and pressure North Korea to seek democracy as well - and world peace will be born. Democracies the world over should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, a light to show the way to peaceful development for China. Syrian children in state of 'toxic stress', Save the Children says
Millions of Syrian children could be living in a state of "toxic stress" due to prolonged exposure to the horrors of war, aid group Save the Children says.
The UN should take action in accordance with international absolute laws (the Humanitarian Law, World Human Rights Law, the Crime of Misdemeanors and the Prohibition of Genocide) and provide an outline of the basic principles needed for a constitution that will support peaceful development. This should include universal values as well as a government structure that will help Syria enjoy long-lasting growth and prosperity as a model for peaceful development. Japan should put an end to ties between political and commercial circles to end corruption. In addition, the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and elections should be free of charge for all candidates. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe informed US President Trump March 7 that Japan is willing to play a larger security role to counter the growing threat from North Korea.

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly told CNN the move would be an attempt at stopping families from making the perilous journey from Central America.

China has proposed a UN resolution to jointly "build a common destiny for humankind." The proposal outlined five main points including innovation, consultation, green, open and sharing, to be followed in developing five concepts. The ultimate goal is to make a greater contribution to world peace and development and to international fairness and justice. Taiwan must move to bring about constitutional reform and achieve true freedom and democracy. Doing so will set off a drive for democratization among the 1.4 billion people of China. This will then spread to North Korea, and when peace is achieved on the Korean peninsula the world will be much safer for all. President Xi says China's open door will not close
The planet we live on must be accorded the benefits gained through universal human wisdom to solve problems facing all humankind. Global free trade and a commitment to bilateral alliances will help bring about peace and prosperity, and implementation of the principle of One World under One Set of Laws is one key to realizing this goal. Whether or not a nation is a member of the UN, it should strive to abide by the norms of the international community, assigning International law precedence over domestic law with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people.
