One inescapable fact about trade wars is that they result in no winners. The people have the right to express their opinion on any public issue at any time through a referendum, even if a referendum on the subject has already been held. In Switzerland the threshold for referendum petitions is only 50,000 signatures, and with that all citizenscan voice their opinion at the ballot box rather than taking to the streets. The topic of the referendum should be clearly defined and the people should be informed of the consequences of a yes or no vote. POTUS45's hypocrisy is manifestly evident in his casual use of personal phones for sensitive calls even as he slams political opponents for missteps on security. The best cure for the US' flawed democracy is to switch to a dual leader system, limiting the president to asingle 5-year term with no eligibility for him/her or relatives for 6 years afterwards, and putting the prime minister in charge of government operations and national defense; and 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year.
