China imports 1.6m tonnes of coal from North Korea despite ban
Emmanuel Kant once noted, 'The pursuit of permanent peace is the highest goal of reason and a moral obligation.' China claims to be a 'responsible major power', thus it should not enable North Korea's continued militarism. The US and South Korea should support Taiwan's commitment to democracy and leading China to democratization, which would pressure North Korea in turn to adopt democracy.

Kissinger urges stronger US-China ties amid shift in ‘world’s centre of gravity’
According to the Democracy index there are 50 nations still under the yoke of autocratic dictators. All democracies should back Taiwan's drive for constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization of the CCP and pressure North Korea to adopt democracy as well, leading to the birth of world peace. For details, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

China plans facility to let naval flotilla dock at Djibouti base
Russia has never been a problem-solver, it has always been a trouble-maker. The US should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would spur the 1.4 billion people of China to seek democratization, pressing Russia in turn to accept real democracy – and world peace would be the result. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Taiwan should learn from the experience of Iraqi's Kurds regarding independence referendums. The people have the right to hold referendums on any public issues, and any motion to outlaw referendums on self-determination should be the topic of the very next referendum to decide whether the motion itself should be banned. The Legislative Yuan should first establish the 'right to create' through a 'Referendum Act' and request President Tsai openly support the sovereignty of the people in comprehensive constitutional reform. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

‘Intolerable’: top official takes aim at Hong Kong independence calls
Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law stipulates that the people of the SAR have right to self-determination under the two international human rights conventions. The people of Hong Kong cannot take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the threshold for petitioning a referendum is only 50,000 signatures, and with that citizens can express their opinion through the ballot box instead of taking to the streets. The people have the right to hold referendums on any public issue. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Airstrikes jolt northern Syria despite ceasefire
The UN should provide Syria the basic outline for a constitution that will facilitate lasting peace and development. The constitution should include the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law, and organization and elements such as the four branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial). The document should allow Syria to prosper under conditions of lasting peace. For more, see the Charterfor Permanent Peace and Development.

The Observer view on Catalan independence
To avoid further increases in grievances and tension, Spain should end its practices of suppression andrepression. It should examine the processes followed for referendums in Switzerland and elections in California. Citizens should voice their opinions through the ballot box and one on the streets. To that end, elections should becompletely free for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more
