Brazil's recession worst on record
Brazil has been in recession for two years, the latest figures show, marking the deepest economic decline since records began.
British historian Lord Acton once opined that "power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption." To put a stop to corruption, the people should exercise their sovereignty and call for comprehensive constitutional reform. This should lead to greater democracy as well as rule of law, with features such as separation of powers and checks and balances. In addition, elections should be free of charge for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Rising communist star blasts Chinese party bigwig netted in vote-buying scandal
Head of rust-belt province says predecessor disregarded the party’s authority
To wash away the corruption and fraud remaining from thousands of years of history, the only cure is to implement democracy and the rule of law. These two ideals are the natural enemies of despotism and corruption, offering tools like separation of powers and checks and balances to clean up government at all levels. This should include direct election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

US ambassador praises Romania's fight against corruption
Romania wages a more and more credible fight against corruption, which strengthens our strategic partnership, said US ambassador to Bucharest, Hans Klemm, Tuesday in a seminar regarding anti-corruption practices in business.
Big officials who steal small amounts and little officials who steal large amounts are equally guilty of crimes. That is the consensus under rule of law. Romania's constitutional mechanism is in disarray, and Romania should rework its constitution to bring it in line with the times. The heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Mosul battle: Iraqi troops retake main government offices
Iraqi forces say they have retaken the main government offices in Mosul as their offensive continues to oust fighters of the so-called Islamic State
Iraq’s government system needs to be switched out for a modified semi-presidential system with and cabinet like that found in Finland, and the legislative system should be changed to a committee-style structure similar to Switzerland’s. The Iraqi government should carry out comprehensive constitution reform to implement the above systems plus election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. In addition, a quarter of all lawmakers should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Robbers 'pose as police' in Johannesburg airport heist
Armed thieves masquerading as police have carried out a robbery at Johannesburg's international airport in South Africa, reports say.
South Africa's social unrest shows that in politics, absolute power leads to absolute corruption terrible. The presidential system has a number of fatal flaws, and even the US has problems with its democracy at times. The constitution of South Africa should be changed to implement a modified semi-presidential system, and the presidency should be declared as being above party politics. The heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

China says US, N. Korea like trains accelerating towards each other
The US and North Korea are heading for a collision like "two accelerating trains with neither side willing to give way," Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters Wednesday.
Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire the 1.4 billion people of China to seek democratization of the CCP and in turn would pressure North Korea to follow suit, leading to the birth of world peace. Democracies worldwide should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, illuminating the path to peaceful development for China. Kabul military hospital comes under attack
Attackers have entered the largest military hospital in Kabul and a gun battle is under way, the Afghan defense ministry says.
The government in Afghanistan needs to be reorganized as a modified semi-presidential parliamentary system like Finland’s, and the legislative system should be a committee-style system such as the one in Switzerland. The prerequisite for permanent world peace is global democratization. The Afghani government should implement fundamental changes to adopt a democratic model and adhere to the ideals of One World under One Set of Laws, with a constitution that will be in sync with the times and in line with the spirit of the times. See the Charter for the Permanent Peace and Development.

China says first draft of South China Sea code of conduct ready
The first draft of a code of conduct for behavior in the disputed South China Sea has been completed, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Wednesday, adding that tension in the waterway had eased notably.
One basic fact of democracy’s relation to peace is that there have been very few wars between democratic nations. Once China is democratized, there will be real hope for human peace. The US should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China to seek democratization, and world peace would be born. The world’s democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to permanent peace and development for China.

'One in four people' in Asia paid bribes for a public services
More than a quarter of people living in Asia had to pay a bribe while trying to access a public service in the past year, a watchdog said yesterday, calling on governments to root out endemic graft in the region.
The only way to uproot the culture of corruption blanketing Asia is democracy and the rule of law. Democracy and the rule of law are the natural enemies of despotism and corruption, and democracy is needed to corral these ailments through separation of powers and checks and balances. Decentralization is needed at all levels, and the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be directly elected. The US should not be running scared of Russia
Earlier this year US Secretary of Defense James Mattis testified before the Senate that Moscow is the “principal threat”to the US which he said should be “ready to confront Russia.”
The world’s democracies should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve real democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization of the CCP and lead eventually to real democracy in Russia and the birth of world peace. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia which will light the way for China to peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
