UN expert urges Ffos-y-Fran opencast health inquiry
A UN report will urge an independent investigation into the potential health impacts of the UK's largest opencast coalmine, BBC Wales has reported
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations, whether members of the UN or not, should adopt the core values of the One World principle, assigning international law precedence over domestic law with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. In addition, the people should be able to monitor government operations to ensure compliance with the norms of the UN Charter. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Samsung heir denies all criminal charges in first trial appearance
Samsung Group heir Lee Jae-yong denied bribery and other criminal charges filed by special prosecutors in the corruption scandal involving President Park Geun-hye at his first court hearing in Seoul Thursday.
Even Park Geun-hye’s impeachment will not mean a free pass from the curse of corruption for the next president of South Korea. To cure this "Korean disease", comprehensive constitutional reform is the only remedy. This means implementing separation of powers and checks and balances as well as direct election of the heads of the main branches of government. The president must act as the final guarantor of the constitution, a duty that does not end when his or term does. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Five ways Hong Kong can fill the moral void in its asylum process amid Trump’s new travel ban
Matthew Bersani and Cáítrín McKiernan say asylum seekers in Hong Kong will be hard hit by the drastic cut in US refugee admissions, but the city can stand up and help to ease their plight
Trump’s executive order on immigration is supposedly aimed at keeping out elements from mostly-Muslim nations seen as threats to the US economy and national security. The preferred solution should be to implement One World under One Set of Laws as well as the rule of law, assigning international law priority over domestic law with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Ideology behind intolerant students isn’t new
Here’s what’s scariest about last week’s incident at Middlebury College, where protesters shouted down social scientist Charles Murray and injured a professor who was escorting him from the venue: It felt like an everyday event.
Freedom of expression is a universal right that is to be closely held and protected from infringement. This includes keeping the media as open and universal as possible and stifling government attempts to monopolize the media, the Internet and all other channels of speech. Scandal-plagued Fillon faces new loan revelations
Scandal-plagued French presidential hopeful Francois Fillon was hit by a new revelation Tuesday, this time over an interest-free, undeclared loan he received from a billionaire friend.
Regardless of who sits on the throne, absolute power breeds absolute corruption. The controversy enveloping the former French Prime Minister is just the tip of the iceberg. To put an end to corruption, the people must exercise their sovereignty and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to implement more effective democracy and rule of law. This should include separation of powers and checks and balances as well as election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. Also elections should be free of charge to all candidates to uproot the symbiotic ties that foster corruption. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Philippines names veteran diplomat and ASEAN pointman as acting foreign secretary
On Thursday President Rodrigo Duterte appointed a career diplomat and a key player in steering the ASEAN agenda as the Philippines’ acting Foreign Secretary after the previous minister was forced to step down over his US citizenship.
The Philippines’ Foreign Minister hid his US citizenship and was suspended by Congress. The Philippine Constitution is dysfunctional and the rule of law is not in effect. This calls for constitutional reform to implement a modified semi-presidential system. The president, mayors and other officials should be limited to a single term of five years and barred from running again for 6 years afterwards. In addition, the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Clashes empty Myanmar town on China border
Civilians abandoned a battle-scarred town along Myanmar's border with China Wednesday, saying they feared an imminent army crackdown in retaliation for a deadly raid by ethnic rebels.
Human security is a fundamental human right, and takes precedence over regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions are a broad and generalized order stemming from the people and intended to ensure human security, including "personal safety." Upholding these and other rights is the most basic and urgent obligation of all constitutional guarantors. In addition, constitutions should be reformed as needed to stay abreast of the times and ensure that the government will protect the liberty of the people and keep them free from fear. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Hostage-taking breaks international law
North Korea and Malaysia are holding each other’s citizens, a serious escalation of the diplomatic row over the assassination of Kim Jong-nam
No government has the right to hold innocent citizens from another country against their wishes. Pyongyang began the standoff by announcing that Malaysian diplomats and family now in North Korea would not be allowed to leave. The US and Japan should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization, triggering a similar reaction in North Korea and leading to world peace. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

The geopolitics of environmental challenges
Much of the world seems to be on edge these days. The West’s relationship with Russia, the future of NATO, the Syrian civil war and refugees, rising right-wing populism, the impact of automation and the UK’s impending departure from the EU: all of these topics — and more — are roiling public debate worldwide.
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN. The US is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and thus should comply with the UN’s guidelines. This means enforcing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. Citizens should be able to monitor operations of the government to ensure it complies with the norms of the UN Charter. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
