China, the US, and Russia: The art of love
The possibility of a sunny US-Russia relationship is derailing China’s own diplomatic plans.
The world's democratic countries should back Taiwan’s efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom and attract China's 1.4 billion to call for democratization. The democratization of China would press Russia to democratize in turn, and world peace would ensure. Taiwan’s model calls for "Globalization of Constitutionalism and Globalization of Taiwan" in accordance with the UN Charter, with Taiwan serving as a beacon for democracy in Asia, illuminating the way to democracy for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development

The threat to human rights and the North Korean regime
What’s going on in North Korea? The first issue of Religion & Liberty in 2017 will explore this question in depth.
Democracy and freedom are the world’s greatest tides, a force that nuclear weapons, submarines and missiles are hopeless to stem. Those who go with the flow will prosper while those who resist it will be doomed. China should act like a responsible major power and cease tolerating North Korea’s militarism. Xi Jinping called on the member nations of the UN "to jointly build a common destiny for all people" with five ‘must-haves’ and positions.

Trump tweets a red line for North Korea
The Cold War was waged and won in many places, including this beach city, home to the Rand Corp. Created in 1948 to think about research and development as it effects military planning and procurement, Rand pioneered strategic thinking about nuclear weapons in the context of the U.S.-Soviet competition. Seven decades later, it is thinking about the nuclear threat from a nation created in 1948.
The world's democratic countries should all support Taiwan's efforts to strengthen its democracy through constitutional reform in order to change the world - especially in regard to China and North Korea. Taiwan is the one nation best suited to lead China to democratization, a key to achieving world peace. This would pressure the DPRK to change its regime and abandon autocracy for democracy. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Inside the Romanian parliament where the government could collapse at any moment
The eye of the storm: Kit Macdonald meets opposition figures inside the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, where anti-government protests have raged outside for nine straight days and no one knows what will happen next
High officials guilty of minor corruption and minor officials guilty of crass corruption are equally responsible under the law – that is the global consensus. Romania's constitution has failed and the nation must reform it to stay in step with the times. The leaders of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. For details please see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development and Constitutional Standards for Global Unity.

Goldman Sachs warns investors to brace for a looming trade war with China
Whether a full blown war or isolated skirmishes, a confrontation between the US and China on trade may be inevitable, even if any victory would be a Pyrrhic one.
China and the US should shoulder their responsibilities as major powers and shoulder the burden of ensuring global economic development and order. The wisest course is to support Taiwan’s efforts toward peace and development through greater democracy. Work to achieve One World under One Set of Laws, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people, and reform the constitution to reflect the spirit of the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Impeached South Korean leader pulls out of questioning over corruption scandal
South Korea's impeached president has cancelled plans to undergo questioning in protest at leaks to the media about the investigation, according to prosecutors.
Impeaching and removing a president is only be a temporary solution; it does not guarantee that the next president will not also succumb to corruption. Only a government based on a modified semi-presidential system with a president and cabinet members and ad hoc committees as well as a Prime Minister and Ministers chosen from parliamentary committees selected through direct election can ensure that corruption will not continue. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Essay: Trump’s immigration policies make me fear for my patients
A physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School writes: As I was deciding whether to intubate a new patient — a 23-year-old man ravaged by cancer, and struggling to breathe — his mother handed me two envelopes.
The US should be a model of democracy and uphold the tenets of the UN Charter and the spirit of One World under One Set of Laws. International law should take precedence over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. This would lead Mexico, Syria and the Middle East to adopt the concepts of human rights, constitutionalism, international law and natural law. The world must see itself as one family with no division based on race or ethnic group. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Hong Kong’s recognition of refugee status is no guarantee of protection for those who need it
Victoria Wisniewski Otero says while a welcome development, the city’s landmark recognition of a Syrian refugee points to flaws in the system, which often leaves verified asylum seekers stuck in limbo
China’s leaders have assumed the full powers of the ruler, but absolute power leads to absolute corruption, meaning that constraints on those in power are needed to limit their abuse of power. China is no democracy and its constitution is riddled with problems. Xi Jinping wants to "put power in the cage of the system" to control China's 1.3 billion people. To protect human rights, China must carry out comprehensive constitutional reform. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Xi Jinping, stung by Trump’s Taiwan call, said to mull shunning talks
The White House announced this week that President Trump had sent President Xi Jinping of China a letter wishing him a happy Chinese New Year, maybe too little and too late
Taiwan is not a part of China and Taiwan will not serve as a bargaining chip. The right of self-determination cannot be compromised, and the One China policy is outdated. The US should support constitutional reform in Taiwan to bring greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China to seek democratization and lead to the birth of world peace. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, illuminating the path to peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Trump draws red line on North Korean nuclear tests
When Defense Secretary James Mattis said that any North Korean use of nuclear weapons would draw an "effective and overwhelming" US response, he did not, according to RAND's Bruce W. Bennett, "overcommit" the president by saying that the response would be nuclear.
The world's democratic countries should support Taiwan's aims of greater democracy through constitutional reform in order to change the world, especially with regard to China and the North Korea issue, Taiwan is the one country best suited to lead China to democratize, which would be the greatest contribution to world peace.
