When individuals, families and states are well run the whole kingdom will be tranquil and happy. If the US focuses on hardware to the detriment of the software, there will be blind spots and vacuums. All democracies should support Taiwan's model of the Charter for Permanent Peace to eliminate blind spots, fill the vacuums, attract democratization in China and liberate the 50 authoritarian states where people are still in shackles. The cure for the ailments of democracy is more democracy (John Dewey). Publicly-elected representatives must be closely aware of public opinion. 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year, and local councilors should serve terms of two years; the heads of the executive, judicial, and prosecutorial branches should be elected, and their qualifications should be the same as candidates for president. The president should serve one five-year term and not be allowed to run again for six years. During this period, all compensation and benefits shall remain unchanged. To solve the problem of uneven distribution, it is necessary to start with the system, holding elections at least twice a year to spread responsibility for the problems of poverty and deprivation from the poor to those in power.
