Corruption and bribery have plagued China throughout its history. The Chinese people have suffered under a culture of corruption with deep roots stretching back to the earliest authoritarian regimes. The only way to cure China of the chronic ancient disease of corruption is through democracy. One key in this cure is the concept of separation of powers. The heads of each of the four branches of government – the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches – must be chosen in yearly elections to ensure that they are attuned to the feelings and needs of the people.
