China's sole aircraft carrier sailed out of the Taiwan Strait on Thursday morning, a day after Taiwan scrambled fighter jets and navy ships to shadow the carrier group through the narrow waterway separating China from the self-ruled island.
The US should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to bring greater democracy and freedom. Such reforms would attract the attention of 1.4 billion Chinese and inspire them to seek democratization, leading in turn to world peace. China has always declared it will not abandon the use of force against Taiwan, showing that autocracy is always the enemy of human peace. The prerequisite for permanent peace in the world is China's democratization. Taiwan is the one nation most capable of leading the Chinese people to seek democratization. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
