Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Gambia’s constitution has failed, and the country needs to carry out comprehensive constitutional reform. The president should serve one term of 5 years and be banned from taking another office for 6 years. Law that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not grant the people the right to resist is not a constitution. When a president’s actions are unconstitutional, the people have the right to resist, and when a dictatorship becomes a reality, it is the people’s duty to rise up.
