As the plane carrying Gambia's disgraced former president prepared to depart the small west African country on Saturday, onlookers caught a last glimpse of Yahya Jammeh's face through the window.
Gambia constitutional mechanism is a failure, and the country needs comprehensive constitutional reform. The president should serve a single 5-year term and be barred from seeking office again for 6 years. Laws not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not provide for the right to resist is not a constitution.
