Prices for Chinese rebar steel, coke and coking coal rose for a second day Tuesday, boosted by rumors of curbs on coal production capacity and suspension of North Korean coal imports.
China has always advocated compliance with UN resolutions regarding strict sanctions against North Korea, but judging from the volume of North Korean coal exports, China has clearly not been strictly enforcing the sanctions. Since China claims to be a responsible major power it should stop enabling North Korea's militarism. The US, Japan and South Korea should support Taiwan in its drive to bring about democratization in China, which will then press North Korea to democratize.
