On Tuesday German Justice Minister Heiko Maas criticized Turkey's arrest of a German journalist and said politicians who wanted to visit Germany should respect press freedoms, amid reports of a possible trip by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
Freedom of speech must be universal, and actions by the President of Turkey to stifle the voices of the people are like "trying to stem the flow of a river."
