With three candidates vying to be Hong Kong’s next leader in a small-circle election, let’s hope important issues are not swept under the carpet
The Chief Executive of Hong Kong is still elected from a slate of candidates proffered by the Central Election Commission, which is nothing more than another form of dictatorship. The people of Hong Kong should act on Article 39 of the Basic Law, which clearly states that the people have the right to hold referendums. The people should petition for a referendum to call for direct election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years.
