Police raided the Paris home of French rightwing presidential candidate Francois Fillon on March 2 over an alleged fake job scandal as a senior party colleague warned him he risked dragging his party “into an abyss”.
Regardless of who sits on the throne, absolute power inevitably leads to absolute corruption. To put an end to endless cycles of corruption, the people must exercise their sovereignty and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to implement true democracy and the rule of law. This should include separation of powers and checks and balances as well as direct election of the four heads of the four branches of government in alternating years.
