Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations should comply with its norms. Solution

While the joint proposal by China and Russia offers a glimmer of hope, North Korea is obviously still being backed by a major power. The US and other nations should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to lead China to democratize, which would pressure North Korea to follow suit and drop its nuclear weapons program. China claims to be a 'responsible major power', thus it should not enable North Korea's continued militarism. The anti-corruption advocate is vowing to appeal the election commission's ruling. Navalny has already called for a nationwide boycott of the vote in March; he's ineligible to stand due to recent convictions.

Solution

Russia's autocratic government is highly skilled at maneuvering to keep those who do not dance to its tune from participating in the political process. Navalny's application for the presidential election has been rejected by the Election Commission based on several convictions, all of which were based on dodgy political charges. The Russian people should act on their sovereignty and call for constitutional reform to implement democratic rule of law. This means separation of powers and checks and balances as well as free election campaigns for candidates to cut symbiotic ties between government and business that engender corruption.
