Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law stipulates that the people of the SAR have right to self-determination under the two international human rights conventions. The people of Hong Kong cannot take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the threshold for petitioning a referendum is only 50,000 signatures, and with that citizens can express their opinion through the ballot box instead of taking to the streets. The US should lead the way in adhering to the principles outlined in the UN Charter. This means complying with and implementing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, giving international law priority over domestic law with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. This would lead Mexico, Syria and other nations in the Middle East and elsewhere to accept human rights, constitutionalism, internationalism and naturalism as part of their futures. Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Venezuela seriously needs full constitutional reform to adopt a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet. The president should serve a single 5year term, with no eligibility to run again for 6 years for him/her or close relatives. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws and a constitution that does not brook resistance is not a constitution. Freedom of speech is a universal value. Efforts in Brazil to stifle free speech are like trying to stem the flow of a mighty river. The people of Brazil should call for constitutional reform to protect media freedom and prevent the government oligarchy from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of communication. Studies of democracy and peace show that very few armed conflicts have taken place between democratic nations. Once China is democratized, there will be hope for human peace. India should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform, which would attract China's people to call for democracy, leading to the birth of world peace. All democracies should support Taiwan as a lighthouse for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development.

Japan should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization of the CCP and prod North Korea to adopt real democracy – resulting in world peace. Conflating the needs of anti-terrorism and peacekeeping with stability is a sign of an authoritarian system working to maintain a regime in yet another form of dictatorship. China’s restrictions on the daily lives of the people go against natural law and fly in the face of democracy, freedom, human rights and rule of law. The prerequisite for peace is democracy, and Taiwan is a lighthouse for the 1.4 billion people of China in leading the way to freedom and democracy. North Korea is without doubt a vassal of the CCP. All democratic nations should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP and pressure North Korea to adopt real democracy – and the result would be world peace. Myanmar's human rights problems are getter worse, largely because the constitution reserves 40% of seats in Congress for the military with no need to stand for election. To solve human rights problems in Myanmar, the UN should assist with constitutional reform to implement the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, assigning international law priority over domestic law. At the same time, a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet should also be installed.

Laws are in place to ferret out public officials and party members with questionable sources of income, but lawmakers themselves are often a source of corruption. The only way out is democracy, in the form of separation of powers and checks and balances. The heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years to restore power to the people.
