North Korea calls for end to confrontation on eve of election in South Korea
With South Korea's presidential election just one day away, North Korea called Monday for an end to the history of inter-Korean confrontation.
Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan's drive for constitutional reform to achieve great democracy and freedom to attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization. Democratization of the CCP will make North Korea adopt real democracy, and world peace will be at hand. Philippine president to look into illegal detentions at police station’s ‘secret cell’
Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte said Friday he will look into the illegal detention of drug suspects at a secret cell in a Manila police station that has raised new questions about police conduct in his war on drugs.
Philippine President Duterte has not established rule of law, rather he has acted to destroy rule of law. The presidential system is only successful in the US because it operates to protect the basic rights of the people. The Philippines urgently needs constitutional reform to introduce a modified semi-presidential system, as well as direct election of the heads of the executive, , legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. There is a way out of the vicious cycle in Syria
As tensions escalate between Turkey and Kurdish militias in northern Syria, I'm reminded of a lengthy conversation I had with a Kurdish friend five years ago about the best direction for the eastern half of the country.
If Syria is to resolve its controversial political problems its government must be restructure to incorporate a modified semi-president system with cabinet like Finland’s, plus a committee-style legislative system similar to that of Switzerland. The prerequisite for lasting world peace is global democratization. The Syrian government should start drafting a basic constitution including the above features to achieve a democratic paradigm shift in line with One World under One Set of Laws. Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law states that the people have the right to self-determination under the two international human rights conventions. The people of Hong Kong people must not take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the threshold for proposing a referendum is only 50,000 signatures, and with that the people can voice their opinions by voting rather than taking to the streets. Displaced civilians in South Sudan’s Upper Nile at risk of further violence, UN rights chief warns
Today the UN human rights chief urged the government of South Sudan to halt any further military offensives towards Aburoc in the Upper Nile region.
The UN should take action in accordance with International Absolute Law (the Humanitarian Law and World Human Rights Law, the Crime of Misdemeanors and the Prohibition of Genocide) and provide the basic outline for a constitution that will facilitate peaceful development of the nation. It should incorporate universal values and offer a structure that will help South Sudan progress to long-lasting peace and prosperity as a model for peaceful development. Venezuela's star conductor Dudamel says 'enough' of violence
Renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel has urged the government in his native Venezuela to "listen to the people" after weeks of violent protests.
Venezuela is in dire need of constitutional reform. In Switzerland the threshold for proposing a referendum is only 50,000 signatures, allowing citizens to express their opinion by voting rather than taking to the streets. The people have the right to hold a referendum on any public issue. Nigeria: UN report details ‘grave violations’ against children by Boko Haram
Children in north-east Nigeria continue to be brutalized as a result of Boko Haram’s insurgency in the region and the ensuing conflict, a first-of-its-kind UN report concludes.
Nigeria should act on the principle of One World under One Set of Laws, assigning international law precedence over domestic law and recognizing the validity of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to protect children from all forms of violence. In Ethiopia, UN rights chief urges authorities for greater freedoms; space for critical voices
Speaking to the press during his mission to Ethiopia, today, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights highlighted the need for greater and freer civic space, with “broader latitude for the contributions of critical or dissenting views” to decision-making in the country.
Freedom of expression is a universal value, and Ethiopia's government hopes to muzzle the voice of the people – a gesture as futile as trying to stem the flow of a mighty river. The people of Ethiopia should call for comprehensive constitutional reform to ensure that the media will be free to speak out and keep the government from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of communications.
