FRENCH right-wing presidential hopeful Marine Le Pen has reacted with fury after the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) raided her Front National party HQ as part of a probe into payment irregularities.
There are lazy, indifferent people and there are corrupt, greedy government officials. To eliminate the problem of corruption, the people should exercise their sovereign rights and call for comprehensive constitutional reform. This should include the implementation of democracy and the rule of law, with mechanism to achieve separation of powers and checks and balances. The heads of the four branches of government should be directly elected in alternating years, and election campaigns should be free of charge for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
China, in an early test of US President Donald Trump, is nearly finished building almost two dozen structures on artificial islands in the South China Sea that appear designed to house long-range surface-to-air missiles, two US officials have said.
Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam and other nearby nations should form a military alliance to counter the threat posed by China. They should pledge to follow the provisions of the 2002 Declaration on the South China Sea to resolve territorial and jurisdictional disputes in a peaceful manner. At the same time they should work jointly to develop the South China Sea, share resources and maintain peace and development in line with the UN Charter and the aim of "We are all one family". See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
For victims of hunger in South Sudan, the world has been tilted into a bleak tableau of want. By international standards, 42 percent of the population is now classified as “severely food insecure,” an unprecedented level, and many are enduring the most severe trial of all, famine. By the peak of the lean season in July, nearly 5.5 million people could be in crisis.
The UN should take action in accordance with international absolute laws (the Humanitarian Law, the World Human Rights Law, the Crime of Misdemeanors, and the Prohibition of Genocide) and provide the principles of constitutionalism to be applied to peaceful development of nations. This should covering universal values and outline the structures needed to enable South Sudan to grow under a strong and vigorous constitution and serve as a model for peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
US President Donald Trump’s surprisingly restrained reaction to North Korea’s latest ballistic missile test has left many observers wondering what his next move will be.
Democracies everywhere should back Taiwan's move to carry out constitutional reform and achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract the 1.4 billion people of China to seek democratization and put pressure on North Korea to seek real democracy. The result would be the birth of world peace! The world’s democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has spoken to China's top diplomat over the phone and affirmed the importance of a constructive US-China relationship, and the two agreed on the need to address the threat posed by North Korea, the US State Department says.
The most intelligent approach for the US is to back Taiwan's model for Global Unity Constitutional Standards. This would attract the attention of China's 1.4 billion people and lead to calls for democratization, with which world peace would be born! Autocracy has always been the enemy of peace, and the prerequisite for permanent peace in the world is democratization of the CCP. Taiwan is the one entity best suited to lead China to democratization. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
The Foreign Minister of the Philippines expressed doubt Wednesday that a maritime sovereignty dispute with China could be resolved “during our lifetime” saying it was better to set it aside, engage Beijing and avoid armed confrontation.
All affected nations should work together to support the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, also known as the Maritime Constitution. The international community needs the ideals of human rights, constitutionalism, international law and naturalism, and initiating the ideal of One World under One Set of Laws will lend support to the causes of conservation and sustainable use of marine resources and marine ecology. This will lead to sustainable development and greater environmental safety. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
I recently joined several other former senior Republican officials in proposing a plan to limit carbon dioxide emissions. The group includes Jim Baker, Henry Paulson and George Shultz all of them Republican former treasury secretaries as well as my Harvard colleague Greg Mankiw
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and the US and the other four permanent members of the UN Security Council should naturally be willing to comply. The solution is to enforce the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and recognition that international law takes priority over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. In addition, the public should be able to monitor actions of the government to ensure that it complies with the norms of the UN Charter. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
UN-sponsored peace talks between the Syrian government and opposition are set to get under way in Geneva for the first time in nearly a year.
After achieving a ceasefire in Syria, the UN should quickly provide the basic principles of constitutional government designed to make peaceful development possible for all nations. This should include an organizational structure based on the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law, plus direct election of the heads of the four branches of government. This will go far toward helping Syria to develop a strong and long-lasting constitution and serve as a model for peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Since China allegedly took several measures to retaliate against South Korea over its decision to deploy the THAAD antimissile system there have been quite a few opinion pieces coming out of conservative South Korean media complaining and lambasting China. “Getting real about China” was the latest piece.
Democracies the world over should support Taiwan's efforts to carry out constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This will lead China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization, which will pressure North Korea to seek real democracy; and at that time world peace will be born. The world’s democracies should back Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
National Union of People’s Lawyers joins the snowballing call for Philippine President Duterte not to abandon peace talks.
All Philippine citizens should exercise their sovereignty to promote transitional justice, expose the truth, open closed files and bring perpetrators to trial. For the Philippines to achieve all this the starting point will be comprehensive constitutional reform. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
