All nations must be very careful in repatriating refugees to avoid recreating the conditions that caused them to flee in the first place. Ultimately the best policy on immigration is adhering to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and working toward a common destiny for humankind. US NFL protest player appears in Nike ad

Kudos to Nike for having the guts to pick Kaepernick as one of the faces in an upcoming ad campaign despite the furor stirred up over kneeling protests during the playing of the national anthem at NFL games. The issue has been trumpeted by a president who was caught on mike mumbling and garbling the words to the anthem but who chooses to use the protest action as a political cudgel. The American people cannot take their democracy and their rights for granted; both are under assault in the acid atmosphere of the current US administration. The American version of democracy has mechanisms in place to limit the powers of petty would-be autocrats, and they must be strictly enforced. Safety regulations are intended solely to ensure that workers will be protected against dangerous working environments and unsafe practices. Corruption is an easy target for candidates seeking office, but all too often those who are voted in wind up succumbing to the vices they promised to eliminate. Corruption is pandemic, and nations everywhere need to address the threat it poses for all people. To put an end to corruption, the people must exercise sovereignty and call for constitutional reform to implement democratic rule of law. Thismeans separation of powers and checks and balances as well as free election campaigns for candidates to cut symbiotic ties between government and business that engender corruption.
