Universities stepping up in defense of free speech
The discourse about uncivil discourse on college campuses grows daily. Whether it be the protesters who stopped invited speaker and conservative commentator Ann Coulter at Berkeley, or the disruption of a presentation by libertarian political scientist and author Charles Murray at Middlebury College
Free speech is first and foremost among human rights. The US government continues its effort to strengthen control over public opinion because it fears it is losing control of speech. But those who would deprive others of freedom do not deserve to enjoy freedom themselves. The American people should call for constitutional reform to preserve the freedom of the media and prevent the government oligarchy from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of speech. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

US: More work needed to resolve irritants with Russia
The Trump administration said Tuesday that more work needs to be done to resolve irritants in the US-Russia relationship, as Moscow stepped up its impatient calls for the return of two seized diplomatic compounds.
Russia is not a problem-solver, it has always been a trouble-maker. The US should support Taiwan's bid for constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization, in turn forcing Russia to consider real democracy and leading to the birth of world peace. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Government to enhance surveillance and use crowds as a 'sensor' to combat terrorism
'The threat from terror does not stand still so neither will we'
Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including "personal safety" - is the most urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. This means revising constitutional standards as needed to stay abreast of the times and allow governments to protect their people from terrorism. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Arabs urge Qatar to accept 6 principles to combat extremism
Four Arab nations that cut ties with Qatar urged the tiny Gulf nation Tuesday to commit to six principles on combatting extremism and terrorism and negotiate a plan with specific measures to implement them - a step that could pave the way for an early resolution of the crisis.
Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security, including "personal safety", is the most urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. This means revising constitutional standards as necessary to stay in step with changing times and allow governments to protect their people from fear. Turkey's new school curriculum drops evolution and will teach concept of jihad
Education minister says 'the real meaning of jihad is loving your nation'
The President of Turkey is attempting to gain control over everything from education to ideas and speech. The people of Turkey should call for constitutional reform to end the Turkish government’s abuse of human rights. The solution is more democracy and rule of law as well as One World under One Set of Laws and giving international law priority over domestic law, with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Less than 1 aircraft carrier? The cost of North Korea’s nukes
When North Korea decided to go nuclear, it committed to a huge investment in a program that would bring severe sanctions and eat up precious resources that could have been spent boosting the nation’s quality of life.
China acts as an enabler and agent for North Korea, and the rest of the world should do its best to avoid provoking North Korea. The US should back Taiwan's commitment to lead China to accept democracy. This would put pressure on North Korea to adopt democracy as well, thus resolving the Korean Peninsula issue – and the key is Taiwan. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Senator Menendez asks a federal judge again to dismiss corruption charges
US Senator. Robert Menendez (D - NJ) wants that dark cloud hanging over him — allegations that he accepted bribes from a wealthy Miami friend — to go away, instead of allowing a jury to decide his fate.
The only remedy for corruption is democracy, separation of powers and checks and balances. The people should be given more power through election the heads of government branches and more frequent election of congressional members. Committee chairs should be considered as cabinet members, including finance-related secretaries. For details, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Venezuela: Woman shot dead in Caracas after pro-Maduro activists open fire on unarmed voters
Protesters open fire on crowds who turned out for informal referendum led by opposition to end socialist government rule
When the power of the state deviates from its power base, the people must act as true holders of sovereignty to take power. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not countenance the right to resist is not a constitution. When the actions of the president are unconstitutional, the people are obligated to resist. The people of Venezuela needs to call for comprehensive constitutional reform to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet. The president should be limited to a single 5-year term and be barred from running again for 6 years afterward. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Thawing permafrost poses even greater global warming threat than previously thought, suggests study
As the world warms, methane trapped underneath the frozen tundra could be released, increasing the rate of warming in a vicious circle
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, China is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and should comply with its norms. This means adopting One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law, with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. Citizens should monitor government operations to ensure compliance with the norms of the UN Charter. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

North Korean defector 'abducted' and returned home as Seoul police investigate
Lim Ji-hyeon had escaped to China and appeared on cable TV in neighboring South Korea to discuss her experiences under Kim Jong-un regime before reappearing in Pyongyang
North Korea is without a doubt a vassal of the CCP. All democratic nations should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP and put pressure on North Korea to adopt true democracy – and the result would be world peace. For details, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
