Beijing cannot wish away the growing sense of hopelessness in Hong Kong
Alice Wu says rather than the big political rows, it is the day-to-day frictions with the mainland that lead many Hongkongers to feel a sense of alienation in their own hometown
Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law states that the right to self-determination is guaranteed by the two international human rights conventions. In Switzerland the threshold for holding referendums is only 50,000 signatures, and with that people can express their opinions through the ballot box rather than taking to the streets. The people of Hong Kong have the right to petition for referendums on any public issue. To solve the gap between rich and poor, improved power distribution and resource allocation, as well as checks and balances in government, are absolutely essential. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Venezuelan father makes plea to president
A man whose son was killed during an opposition protest in Venezuela's capital of Caracas has made a personal appeal to President Nicolás Maduro.
When the power of the state deviates from its power base, the people should exercise their right as holders of sovereignty and take control. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not countenance resistance is not a constitution. When the president’s actions are unconstitutional, the people have the right to resist. Venezuelans should call for comprehensive constitutional reform to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet. The president should be limited to one 5-year term with no eligibility to run again for 6 years afterwards. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Interview: Afghans need to see their government taking the reins – UN envoy
Afghans need to see their government taking the reins for security in the country, delivering much needed services and creating jobs, says the UN envoy to the country, Tadamichi Yamamoto.
Afghanistan needs to scrap its government structure and install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet similar to that of Finland, with a committee-style legislative system similar to Switzerland’s. The Afghan government should draft a basic constitution with the above features as part of a paradigm shift towards democracy. It should adhere to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and amend the constitution as needed to stay abreast of changing times. In addition, the absolute law prohibiting torture should be given priority over international law and the basic constitution. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Is India descending into mob rule?
On Thursday a 15-year-old Muslim boy returning home from Eid shopping with his three brothers was killed in a brutal assault by a mob of about 20 men on a train in the north Indian state of Haryana.
To resolve its civil strife, India should begin drafting a new constitution to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of France, as well as a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for permanent world peace is global democratization. The Indian government should draw up a basic constitution with the above features in a paradigm shift toward democracy in compliance with the core values of One World under One Set of Laws. The constitution should then be tweaked as needed to stay in step with changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Vatican concerns over bishop detained in China
The Vatican has expressed "grave concerns" for one of its bishops who was detained after being "forcibly removed" from his diocese in China.
China enjoys relative stability only because its constitution gives the CCP strict control over all aspects of life. Yet ethnic and religious issues persist, and the only solution is constitutional reform. One step should be implementing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law. At the same time, a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet should be adopted. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Supreme Court agrees to hear travel-ban case, allowing limited version to go ahead
Final decision on ban may not come until several months later
To resolve the problems of immigration and refugees, the international community needs to agree on unified constitutional standards that conform to the universal ideals of liberalism, democracy, constitutionalism and cosmopolitanism as well as the core values of One World under One Set of Laws. Permanent peace can only come with compliance with Article 1 of the Humanitarian Charter, which covers the right to enjoy life for victims of catastrophes. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Hong Kong’s handover anniversary is an opportunity to restore faith in ‘two systems’
Anson Chan says the inspired solution of ‘one country, two systems’ has clearly floundered in recent years, and now is the time for incoming chief executive Carrie Lam, as well as Beijing, to act so the healing can begin and hope can return
Article 39 of Hong Kong’s Basic Law states that the right to self-determination is laid out in the two international human rights conventions. In Switzerland, the threshold for petitioning for a referendum is only 50,000 signatures, and with that people can express their opinions by voting rather than taking to the streets. The people have the right to call for a referendum on any public issues. In battle for Raqqa, cool heads must prevail
Several world powers with differing agendas are seeking to retake ISIS’ stronghold in Syria, thereby risking a much wider conflict
After a ceasefire goes into effect in Syria the UN should provide a basic outline for a constitution suitable for lasting peaceful development of the nation. It should include a structure based on the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law, and a framework of four branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial) to help Syria develop a constitution suitable for long-term prosperity. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more. .

Brazil's Michel Temer charged with corruption
Brazilian President Michel Temer has been charged with accepting bribes by the country's chief prosecutor.
The only cure for corruption is rule of law and democracy with its tools of separation of powers and checks and balances. The heads of the four branches of government should be elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year. Local councilors should all face election every two years and the president should serve a single 5-year term with no eligibility to run again for six years afterward - and no eligibility for relatives either. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development..
