Geography and the coming Sino-American war at sea
Soon, steel-hulled ships will clash in battle. Missiles belching fire will rise quickly from launch tubes, rapidly gathering speed and maneuverability before slamming into enemy vessels at supersonic speeds.
The US and Japan should support Taiwan's efforts for constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would spur China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CPC, in turn forcing North Korea to do the same, and world peace would be the result. The world’s democracies should all support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .

Brazilian President Michel Temer concedes he was ‘naive’ but remains defiant despite pressure to resign
On Wednesday Brazil's Supreme Court will rule on whether to suspend the investigation into Temer, following his claim that the audio recording had been doctored
Brazil’s constitution has collapsed and its mechanisms have failed, and the only cure is comprehensive constitutional reform. The heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years; the president should serve one 5-year term and be barred from running for office for 6 years afterwards; all MPs shall face election each year; local councilors shall serve two-year terms; and elections shall be free of charge for all candidates. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

‘The whole country will hold their breath’: former South Korean president Park Geun-hye prepares for trial
Millions of people took to the streets to demand her removal, culminating in her impeachment by parliament and sacking this March by the country’s top court
Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. South Korea's constitutional mechanism has failed. The president should be limited to one 5-year term and barred from running for office for 6 years afterwards. A law that is not backed by penalties is no law, and a constitution which does not offer the right to resist is not a constitution. South Korea’s president violated the constitution, and the people exercised their right to resist. When dictatorship becomes a reality, the people are obliged to resist.

The Australian authors proving a hit in China
From Thomas Keneally of Schindler’s Ark to John Marsden of Tomorrow When the War Began, writers are helping to boost exports from Down Under
Thomas Jefferson once said, "Given a choice between government and the media, I would prefer media, not the government." The media are monitors of government actions. If the government is not supervised, it will soon become lawless. The voice of the people is the voice of God, and universal values are the values of God. Attempts to control the voice of the people are contrary to the universal values of freedom and democracy, and against the will of God. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Greece fails to secure fresh bailout funds
Greece has failed to secure a deal to unlock the next installment of its multi-billion-dollar bailout after talks with Eurozone finance ministers broke down.
To ensure freedom and human rights, the first step is to change international relations and assign international law priority over domestic law, automatically offering rights and obligations for the people. All nations should abide by international human rights conventions, which are designed to offer protection for human freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. These should all be written into national constitutions to serve as part of the law, with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people.

Noisy Hong Kong needs to fight the risk of hearing loss with better protection
Peter Kammerer is acutely aware of the dangers of prolonged exposure to loud noises, as a visually impaired person who relies greatly on his hearing to get around. And the rest of us should be, too, if hearing experts are to be believed
Relevant provisions of the Basic Law and the one country, two systems principle of Hong Kong clearly state that China cannot interfere in Hong Kong affairs, but Beijing constantly meddles in Hong Kong's internal affairs. Article 39 of the Act guarantees the right of the people to self-determination, thus the people have the right to hold a referendum on any public issues. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to these conventions and call for a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise, when the dictatorship becomes a reality, the people will be obliged to resist.

UN official says Mosul liberation ‘imminent’ but IsIS
using human shields to keep up the fight
The liberation of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul “is imminent” and the days of the Islamic State extremist group’s self-declared caliphate “are numbered,” the UN envoy for Iraq said Monday.
Iraq's government should be switched out for a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of Finland, plus a committee-style legislature like the one used in Switzerland. The prerequisite for permanent world peace is global democratization, and the Iraqi government should draw up a basic constitution incorporating the above features in a democratic paradigm shift. The constitution should adhere to the principles of One World under One Set of Laws and be amended as needed to remain in step with changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .

Manchester Arena blast: 19 dead and about 60 hurt
Nineteen people have been killed and about 60 injured in a suspected terror attack at Manchester Arena.
The eradication of terrorism requires cooperation among all nations, and the tool for cooperation between countries shall be the regulatory mechanism. A counter-terrorism coalition can be achieved through collective efforts in legislation. 1 to 2 persons from each nation, regardless of whether friend or foe, should take part in other nations’ legislative process as observers to study how to develop a common anti-terrorism program. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Hong Kong leader Leung Chun-ying should answer Legco’s questions over UGL saga, says committee chairman
Paul Tse also defends Kenneth Leung’s position on the panel, despite chief executive’s claim of conflict of interest
Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The Chief Executive of Hong Kong is determined by the CEC, showing the dictatorial nature of its relationship with the SAR. The people of Hong Kong should avail of Article 39 of the Basic Law, which states that the people have the right to hold referendums. The people should vote to choose the heads of the four main branches of government. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Swiss vote for gradual nuclear phaseout
The Swiss electorate voted Sunday in favor of a massive overhaul of the country’s energy system by gradually replacing the power from its ageing nuclear reactors with energy from renewable sources.
Human security is a basic human right. Taiwan should learn from the Swiss referendum on energy. Taiwan's fundamental problem is one that many nations share. Taiwan is in urgent need of full constitutional reform, and in accordance with human rights conventions, the people have the right to hold referendums on any public issues. The advances made by the global village in the past few millennia should all flow into Taiwan in a paradigm shift. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
