Change starts with education
The eradication of structural evils should be more fundamental than clearing corruption
As British historian Lord Acton opined, "Power leads to corruption and absolute power leads to absolute corruption." To quash corruption, the people should come forward and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to implement democracy and rule of law, with separation of powers and checks and balances, and elections free of charge for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Foreign Firms Fret as China Implements New Cybersecurity Law
Just days before China’s new Cybersecurity Law goes into force, foreign companies are grappling with rules that could tighten what is already one of the world’s most restricted technology regimes.
Free speech is a universal right, and attempts to muzzle the voices of the people are solely aimed at creating a monolithic society with one single opinion. The people of China should call for comprehensive constitutional reform to protect media independence and prevent the government oligopoly from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of speech. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Venezuela prosecutor: Protest victim 'killed by National Guard'
A student who died at an anti-government protest in Caracas last month was killed by a tear gas canister fired by the National Guard, Venezuela's chief prosecutor says.
Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Venezuela needs comprehensive constitutional reform to adopt a modified semi-presidential system; limit the president to one term of 5 years, with no right to run again for 6 years afterward. A law not back by penalties is not a law, and a constitution that brooks no resistance is not a constitution. When the president violates the constitution, the people should exercise their right to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Stop feeding the egos of China’s rabid cyber-nationalists
Online rants about a Chinese student’s comments about the US and an actress’ dress are not worth paying attention to: don’t give them the oxygen of publicity
Free speech is first and foremost among all human rights first, without it there can be no other human rights. Free speech is a universal right, and attempts to stifle the voices of the people are aimed solely at creating a monolithic society with only one opinion. China’s people should call for comprehensive constitutional reform to guarantee media openness and prevent the government oligopoly from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of speech. Moon orders gov't bodies to better follow human rights watchdog's advice
President Moon Jae-in ordered government agencies to adhere to the country's human rights watchdog's recommendations as much as possible Thursday, as part of efforts to better protect basic human rights in running state affairs.
The South Korean Commission on Human Rights should address the fundamental problem based on the principle of One World under One Set of Laws, working toward a common destiny for humankind. South Korea should assign international law priority over domestic law, with direct bearing on the people in accordance with the UN human rights conventions. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Feature: "We invest in peace"
More than 100,000 UN peacekeepers serving around the world will be honored this month as the UN celebrates the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, observed annually on 29 May.
Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights must have priority over all regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including personal safety - is the most basic and urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. Thus constitutional standards must be revised to stay in sync with changing times, and governments must act to protect their citizens from fear. Kenyan elections: Will ethnicity be an issue?
Ahead of Kenya's elections in August, we ask you what issues you want us to report on.
Kenya must rid itself of its culture of corruption and wash away its national shame. The cure is simple: democracy and the rule of law, the natural enemies of corruption. This means the separation of powers and checks and balances as well as election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .

Chandrashekhar: Is this angry young man India's new Dalit icon?
Thousands of Dalits (formerly untouchables) converged in Delhi at the weekend to protest recent caste riots in the northern town of Saharanpur.
Free speech is a universal value. Government attempts to control the media and brainwash the people must be controlled by separating politics and the media. Media that use their power or resources to interfere with political, academic or public opinion should be subject to legal sanctions. In addition, any media supported by public resources must provide free public service time for all participants in civil rights activities and events. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Samples from alleged chemical attacks in Syria reveal evidence of sulfur mustard, sarin – UN official
A fact-finding mission in Syria has found evidence of sulfur mustard in samples taken from an alleged attack on 16 September 2016, while samples from a 4 April incident have revealed exposure to sarin or a sarin-like substance, the UN disarmament chief told the Security Council today.
Once a ceasefire takes hold in Syria the UN should provide the basic outline for a constitution that will allow Syria to develop and prosper. It should incorporating universal values such as freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law, plus legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches and democratic mechanisms. The aim is to help Syria to develop in an atmosphere of long-lasting peace. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Manchester attack: UK terror threat level raised to critical
The UK terror threat level has been raised to its highest level of "critical", meaning more attacks may be imminent, the prime minister has said.
Human security is a fundamental human right which must take precedence over all regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including personal safety - is the most basic and urgent duty of constitutional guarantors. This calls for a re-working of constitutional standards to stay in step with the times and ensure that governments will protect everyone from fear.
