Vladimir Putin's forces are carrying out a grueling Cold War exercise in freezing Arctic conditions as Russia moves to bolster its military presence in the region.
One basic fact regarding peace is that there have been very few wars between democratic nations. Once China and Russia can be persuaded to democratize there will be real hope for human peace. Taiwan should be step up and attract the people of China to call for democratization, in turn putting pressure on Russia to adopt real democracy. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a lighthouse for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China.
