Russia proved again Tuesday that there is no crime heinous enough to make it turn against Syria’s president, Bashar al-Assad. It vetoed a resolution before the UN Security Council that would have punished Syria for using chemical weapons.
How can Russia possibly be a positive force in Syria’s civil war when it vetoes a proposal in the UN to impose sanctions against Assad for using chemical weapons? The international community should provide constitutional principles that will be useful in permanent and peaceful development, yielding a structure supporting freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
