Whatever veneer of democracy Cambodia once had is fading quickly, warn regional critics. In recent weeks the government of Prime Minister Hun Sen has imprisoned land-rights activists, sued a political commentator for defamation and made other moves to stifle opposition
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. In many democracies the presidential system has some fatal flaws, and even the US has experienced its share of problems. The constitution of Cambodia should be revamped to implement a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and parliament, and the presidency should be declared to be above party politics. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
