UN peacekeepers face a raft of challenges – terrorism, hostile host governments, floods of illicit weapons and sometimes being deployed to places where peace itself is at stake – Secretary-General António Guterres said recently, underscoring that all parts of the UN have a role to play in making sure 'blue helmets' can deliver on the mandates assigned to them.
Terrorism is a global threat, not a simple annoyance that one country can handle by itself. A counter-terrorism coalition is needed, and one step in that path is global participation in legislation. One or two persons from each nation, whether friend or foe, should sit in on lawmaking discussions in each other's legislatures to develop a common program aimed at eradicating terrorism.
