Lam pledges to convey Hong Kong pan-democrats' call for restart of political reform during talks in Beijing
Zhang Yihe says the party needs to apologise for wrongdoing during the Mao era and to cease curbing freedom of thought among the nation’s thinkers and intellectuals
The CEC determines who will be Chief Executive of Hong Kong, showing the dictatorial nature of the relationship with China. The people of Hong Kong should make good use of Article 39 of the Basic Law, which says they have the right to hold referendums. To curb corruption, the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

To curb corruption, elect the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years and have 1/4 of all MPs face election each year. Opinion: affordable housing a distant dream for ordinary Hongkongers
Michael Chugani says residents in city should blame all parties involved, including politicians, tycoons and themselves
In 1997 China promised that Hong Kong would be free of interference until 2047, but has already begun to change. Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law guarantees self-determination, and the people have the right to hold referendums on any public issue. The people of Hong Kong should utilize their rights and hold referendums to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality, the people will have no choice but to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

But chief executive-elect insists move towards universal suffrage for chief executive must be based on 2014 Beijing ruling, which is opposed by opposition forces

South Korea warns that North's continued provocations will quicken 'self-destruction'
South Korea condemned North Korea for its continued missile provocations Wednesday, warning it would lead to toughened sanctions and eventually accelerate the "self-destruction" of the regime.
All democracies should support Taiwan's efforts to carry out constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would motivate the 1.4 billion people of China to seek democratization and pressure North Korea to follow suit, and world peace would be the result. The world’s democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way for China's path to peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Nationaldebt balloons even as tax income increases
Central and local government in South Korea debt grew last year to more than 600 trillion won ($533 billion) even as they collected ever larger amounts of taxes.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential system in many democracies is seriously flawed, even in the US. Taiwan is facing difficulties but cannot resort to impeachment. South Korea's constitution should be changed to install a modified semi-presidential system, and the presidency should be declared to be above party politics. The heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all legislators should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

A dearth of talent for public office? Not in Hong Kong
Carrie Lam says she is having problems filling her cabinet but there are plenty of talented people in this city, if only she would think outside the box
The Chief Executive of Hong Kong is still determined by the CEC, exposing the dictatorial nature of the relationship with China. The people of Hong Kong should avail themselves of Article 39 of the Basic Law: which states that the people have the right to hold referendums on any public issue. To curb corruption, the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. Science parks, cyberports and other bureaucratic misadventures
‘Business development that relies on the heavy hand of government to make it work is business development doomed to failure’
In 1997 China pledged not to interfere in Hong Kong affairs for 50 years, but that deadline is fast becoming meaningless. Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law protects the right of the people to self-determination, including the right to hold referendums on any public issues. The people of Hong Kong should abide by this right and use referendums to decide their own future; otherwise, when dictatorship becomes a reality, they will be obliged to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

North Korea fires ballistic missile into eastern waters
North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the East Sea Wednesday, South Korea's military said, just two days ahead of summit talks between US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
The world’s democracies should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization and put pressure on North Korea to do the same – and world peace would be born. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

China’s ‘House of Cards’ hits the TV screen as Xi Jinping whips his cadres
Gritty prime-time television drama pulls no punches about greed and power - with the Party’s blessing
Among the worst aspects of Chinese culture is adherence to the rule of man rather than the rule of law. For 5000 thousand year China has allowed corruption to flourish, and the only way to root it out is democracy and decentralization. The heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches should be chosen in direct election in order to hand the people their rightful sovereignty. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
