The problem of snowballing national debt
South Korea’s national debt has past the 1,400 trillion won mark ($1.2 trillion). According to national account settlements for FY2016 from the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, the nation’s general liabilities reached 1,433 trillion won including total debt of central and provisional governments and government obligations to cover pension payouts for civil servants and career soldiers.
South Korea's economic problems are rooted in its politics. Without good politics, good economic performance is impossible. If the constitution is not changed, even the gods will be unable to save the economy. Constitutional reform is needed to install a modified semi-presidential system with a committee-style legislature and government ministers chosen from among committee chars. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Amend the tax code and revitalize the economy
One out of two salary-earners and companies in Korea do not pay income taxes. According to the National Tax Service, 8.1 million or 46.8 percent of 17.33 million individuals who reported their annual wages to the tax office in 2015 had not paid their dues on earned income.
If South Korea is to revitalize its economy, it must rewrite the source of corruption and inefficiency: the nation’s constitution. Clean up the system with reforms like election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years, have 1/4 of MPs face election each year, limit elected officials to one term, and make elections free of charge for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Lotte chairman questioned in connection with corruption scandal
The chief of South Korea's retail giant Lotte was grilled by prosecutors Friday as they widen their investigation into local conglomerates in relation to a corruption scandal that removed former President Park Geun-hye from office.
The Constitution of South Korea should be changed to install a modified semi-presidential system, and the presidency should be declared to be above party politics. Symbiotic ties between government and business must be severed and separation of powers installed, and the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

South Korea, US, Japan vow stronger ties to bolster defense against North Korean missiles
South Korea agreed Friday to further strengthen trilateral military partnerships with the US and Japan to counter North Korea's missile threats, Seoul's defense ministry said.
Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization and bring about the birth of world peace. China has always said it does not rule out the use force of force. The prerequisite for permanent world peace is democratization of the Chinese people, and Taiwan is the one entity best able to make it possible. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. 。

Park’s friend Choi to be transferred to different cell
A longtime friend of ousted South Korean President Park Geun-hye is to be transferred to a different location to prevent her from coming into contact with the detained leader, a prosecution official said Wednesday.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential system in democracy suffers from many flaws, and even the US has problems sometimes. Taiwan’s difficulties are more serious but does not have the option of impeachment. South Korea's constitution should be changed to install a modified semi-presidential system, with the presidency declared to be above party politics. The heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year. Trial of Samsung heir over bribery allegations begins
A Seoul court held the first hearing Friday in the Samsung Group leader's charges of bribery in relation to a massive corruption scandal that brought down former President Park Geun-hye.
Roman Roland once observed that "In politics, the boss is always money." Elections are often a game reserved for the rich, played for right to make more money and contributing even more to corruption in the system. To put an end to political and commercial collusion, comprehensive constitutional reform is needed to choose the heads of government branches in alternating years and make elections free of charge for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Book review: Fixing Inequality in Hong Kong – the city’s challenges, how they’re connected and how to solve them
Richard Wong and Yue Chim pack a lot into 300 pages, and inevitably stray into politics as they map out solutions to Hong Kong’s multiple challenges; the data they’ve amassed may be book’s biggest selling point
The relevant provisions of the Basic Law and the one country, two systems principle both state clearly that China cannot interfere in Hong Kong affairs. Beijing authorities are constantly meddling in the SAR's internal affairs all the same. In accordance with Article 39, which guarantees the right of the people to self-determination on any public issue through referendums, the people of Hong Kong should call for referendums to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality, the people will be obliged to resist.

Bangladesh finally bows to pressure and shuts down leather industry long condemned for its deadly pollution
Government figures estimate that 22,000 cubic litres of foul-smelling waste used to treat animal hides is pumped into the nearby river everyday
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations, whether members of the UN or not, should adhere to the core values behind the principle. This also means giving international law priority over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. In addition, citizens should be able to monitor government operations to see that they comply with the norms of the UN Charter. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.。

EU lawmakers adopt Brexit resolution, hint at UK return
European Union lawmakers adopted a resolution Wednesday to set red lines for the two-year divorce talks with Britain and rejected attempts by British MEPs to recognize Gibraltar’s pro-EU stance in the Brexit referendum.
Sovereignty is entirely in the hands of the people. The people have the right to express their opinions in referendums on any public issue. The referendum outranks the legislature in terms of legitimacy by giving voice to the true sovereigns, the people. Norway and Switzerland chose not to join the EU, another demonstration of how the efforts of the people will not be in vain. Referendums are a direct expression of the will of the people and must be given priority over the actions of representatives in indirect democracy. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Anger in China grows along with questions over death of teenager
Deadly fall of a high school pupil in Sichuan Province has turned into a national controversy over how authorities handle public concerns
Citizens of modern democratic countries have every right to resist unconstitutional actions by government agencies. When the aims of the state are not aligned with those of the power base - the people - the people must stand up and resist abrogation of their constitutional rights. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
