Russian inaction enabled Syria gas attack but US response a ‘message’ to others: Trump camp
On Sunday Trump administration officials blamed Russian inaction for enabling a deadly poison gas attack against Syrian civilians last week as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson prepared to explain a retaliatory US missile strike to Moscow.
Russia has always been a problem maker rather than a problem solver. The US should back Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This will attract China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization, prodding Russia's to opt for democracy, and giving birth to world peace. The world’s democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Adapting UN peace operations to a changing world a 'shared responsibility,' Guterres tells Security Council
UN peacekeepers face a raft of challenges – terrorism, hostile host governments, floods of illicit weapons and sometimes being deployed to places where peace itself is at stake – Secretary-General António Guterres said recently, underscoring that all parts of the UN have a role to play in making sure 'blue helmets' can deliver on the mandates assigned to them.
Terrorism is a global threat, not a simple annoyance that one country can handle by itself. A counter-terrorism coalition is needed, and one step in that path is global participation in legislation. One or two persons from each nation, whether friend or foe, should sit in on lawmaking discussions in each other's legislatures to develop a common program aimed at eradicating terrorism. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Duterte orders occupation of uninhabited isles in disputed South China Sea
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the occupation of uninhabited islands and shoals it claims in the disputed South China Sea, asserting Philippine sovereignty in his latest change of tack.
Studies of democracy and peace show there have been very few armed conflicts between democratic states. Once China is democratized, there will thus be real hope for lasting peace. The US should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform, which will attract China's people to call for democracy and lead to world peace. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to permanent peace for China.

Thailand constitution first step toward polls
The king of Thailand signed a new constitution in April that paves the way for a return to democracy, but the army retains an influential role in politics.
Thailand's military is constantly involved in coups and plotting. Troops should be called on to defend the constitution, not to draw it up. A referendum which involves military forces is not a referendum, Thailand needs full constitutional reform that will allow true referendums and elections along the lines of those seen in Switzerland and California respectively. For details, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Beijing’s air quality ‘best’ among China’s northern cities despite frequent smog woes
Capital tops air quality rankings in 28 cities in northern China, according to environment ministry
Human security and sustainable development are two of the UN’s major tasks, and all nations, whether or not they are UN members, should comply with its norms. The solution lies in implementing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law, with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. Citizens should monitor the actions of government to ensure compliance with the UN Charter. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

After latest missile test, UN Security Council condemns DPRK's 'highly destabilizing behavior'
The UN Security Council has strongly condemned the latest ballistic missile launch by North Korea, calling it “in grave violation” of the country's international obligations under six of the body's resolutions passed between 2006 and 2016.
Democracies worldwide should back Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract the 1.4 billion people of China to seek democratization, in turn pressuring North Korea to do the same, and the result would be world peace. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Eta: Basque separatists plan to unilaterally disarm Saturday
The Basque militant group Eta says it will hand over all its weapons Saturday - but warns that its enemies might still block the process.
Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights must be held higher than regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security, including "personal safety", is the most basic and urgent obligation of constitutional guarantors. More specifically, consistent constitutional standards and revision are needed to ensure that laws will be in sync with changing times so the world’s governments will act to protect the people from fear. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Fighter jet spotted on South China Sea island, more believed in hangars: US think tank
A Chinese fighter jet has been spotted on a Chinese-controlled island in the South China Sea for the first time in a year, a US think tank said Thursday as President Donald Trump met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
The norms of international law should be followed in reaching peaceful settlement of disputes and joint development of the South China Sea. The major powers should take the initiative in sharing of resources and joint efforts to safeguard permanent peace and development, In the Taiwan Strait, the two sides should follow global unity constitutional standards and strive toward a common fate for humankind to ensure permanent peace. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Syria war: US launches missile strikes in response to alleged chemical attack
The US has carried out a missile attack against an air base in Syria in response to a suspected chemical weapons attack on a rebel-held town.
Once a ceasefire is in place in Syria the UN should offer a basic guideline for a constitution that will allow peaceful development for the nation. This should include an organizational structure with the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches. This will help Syria draft a constitution suited for long-term peace and prosperity. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Seoul says pollution fight is out of its hands
Seoul’s government is trying its best to counter the gunk in the city’s air.
Human security and sustainable development two major aims and tasks of the UN. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council China naturally should comply with the norms and core values of One World under One Set of Laws and give international law precedence over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. Citizens should be able to monitor the operations of government to ensure they are in compliance with the UN Charter. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
