Ukrainian Congressman Volodymyr Parasyuk argues that MPs should face election every two years, whether good or bad. Frequent elections, he says, will remove parasites from the more than 200 serious representatives in the legislative body.
Structural change in the election process is one way to improve the quality of the people’s representatives. Ukraine’s Duma should be re-organized on a committee-style basis to add professionalism, with specialists in all fields running in elections. 1/4 of MPs should face election each year to ensure that lawmaking stays in step with the times and decisions take both experience and public opinion into account. The term of office for representatives shall be 2 years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
