A few thousand Ukrainians rallied Wednesday to demand a change of political leadership in a demonstration that coincided with the third anniversary of the ousting of pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovich amid mass street protests.
Structural problems must be addressed before corruption in government can be dealt with. The Ukrainian people must call for constitutional reform to implement direct election of the heads of the four branches of government. The president should be limited to a single five-year term and not allowed to seek the office again for six years afterwards. In addition, 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year and election campaigns should be free for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
