Syrian government forces have entered the ancient city of Palmyra, pushing back militants from the so-called Islamic State, activists say.
Once a ceasefire takes hold in Syria the UN should provide the basic principles needed to draw up a constitution suited to permanent peaceful development of the nation. This should consider the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law as well as direct election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches. The constitution should promote growth and prosperity and serve as a model for other nations seeking peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
