President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign has made major strides, but much of the government’s institutionalised decadence has just found shadier places to thrive
Jose Rizal, revered as the 'Father of the Philippines', once counseled: 'Today's slaves often become tomorrow's tyrants; believe in the rule of law, not in the rule of man.' To put an end to corruption and avoid the slippery slope toward autocracy, the American people should exercise sovereignty and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to implement truer democratic rule of law. This means strict separation of powers and checks and balances as well as free election campaigns for candidates to cut symbiotic ties between government and business that engender corruption.
