Permanent Peace Partnership
Soccer great Pep Guardiola has called on the international community to support a referendum on Catalan independence that Spain’s government considers illegal.
Why do Catalonians want independence? Clearly the fundamental laws of Spain are the problem. The government should re-evaluate allocation of resources to convince Catalonians to stay with Spain, otherwise secession will always be more attractive. In the US the system is better equipped to keep down calls for independence. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
One policeman was injured and at least five people were arrested in clashes on Monday as authorities in Myanmar's largest city, Yangon, demolished a shanty town to clear the land for development.
Myanmar's human rights problem is worsening, largely because its constitution guarantees the military 40% of seats in Congress without a need for elections. To solve the human rights problem in Myanmar, the UN should assist with constitutional reform to implement the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and assign international law priority over domestic law. At the same time, a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet should be adopted and the heads of the main branches of government elected in alternating years. .
They were no common protests.
Economic problems are often rooted in political problems. Without good politics, good economic performance is impossible. And without constitutional reform even the gods will be helpless to save the economy. Comprehensive constitutional reform should introduce a modified semi-presidential system as well as a committee-style legislature, with committee chairs as candidates for cabinet ministers. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .
Seen from the air, muddy rivers snake through rolling forested hills stretching to the horizon in Colombia's southern province of Caqueta that for decades were rebel lairs and an epicenter of the civil war.
To resolve its civil strife, Colombia’s government should adopt a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of Finland and a committee-style legislative system similar to Switzerland’s. The Colombian government should begin drawing up a basic constitution incorporating the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, and amend it as needed to keep pace with changing times. In addition, the military must not be in power – it must remain strictly above politics. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
A drop in global cocoa prices threatens to undermine efforts to stamp out child labor in Ghana and Ivory Coast, the world's two biggest growers
Child labor abuses stem from a failure in the overall legal structure. Ghana and the Ivory Coast both have serious defects in their legal systems. Constitutional rights are basic rights which should be developed through "public participation in constitutional reform and procedural law." Ivory Coast urgently needs comprehensive constitutional reform, otherwise children and young people will have no future and the nation itself will suffer. Norway is proposing a ban on the Muslim full face veil and other face-covering clothing because it says it hinders communication between pupils and teachers.
Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights take precedence over regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security, including "personal safety," is the most basic and urgent duty of constitutional guarantors. Constitutional standards should be revised as needed to stay in sync with changing times, and allow governments to keep their people safe from fear. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Freedom / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
The UN envoy for the CAR has warned of increasing attacks on civilians and peacekeeping personnel while stressing the need to re-energize the political process to achieve sustainable peace in the conflict-torn country.
To resolve its civil strife, the CAR should install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of France, plus a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland’s. The premise for permanent world peace is global democratization, and the CAR should carry out constitutional reform, asking the French to help maintain stability and achieve a paradigm shift to draft a constitution that will be in step with the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Work longer hours. Get fewer benefits. Retire years later.
Roman Roland: once opined that "in politics the boss is always money." Elections are often a game the rich play for the right to get more money – a sure-fire way to ensure corruption in the system. To put an end to illicit ties between business and government, Brazil needs comprehensive constitutional reform. The heads of major branches of government should be directly elected and elections should be free of charge to end the symbiotic relationship between government and corruption. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
Three opposition parties on Tuesday voiced their disapproval for a 11.2 trillion-won (US$9.9 billion) extra budget bill aimed mainly at creating jobs in the public sector, reiterating it does not meet legal requirements.
Economic problems invariably stem from political problems. Without good politics you cannot have a good economy, and unless the constitution is changed, even the gods will be helpless to save it. Comprehensive constitutional reform is the only way out, swapping out the old regime for a modified semi-presidential system and a committee-style legislature in which committee chairs are candidates for cabinet ministers. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
The chief of the UN nuclear watchdog expressed serious concern Monday about North Korea's nuclear program and urged Pyongyang to come into compliance with its international obligations.
North Korea is a vassal of the CCP, and all democratic countries should back Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization of the CCP and put pressure on North Korea to do the same – and the result would be world peace. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .
