On Sunday in Istanbul, thousands filled the streets to protest a historic referendum that dramatically expanded the president’s powers.
The presidential system is in many ways close to dictatorship. The more power the president wields, the more like the country is to suffer. Turkey needs constitutional reform to limit the president to one 5-year term with no right to run again for 6 years afterwards. The President of Turkey is violating Article 6 of the Turkish Constitution, which declares that sovereignty belongs wholly and unconditionally to the people. Neither states nor sovereigns have the right to exercise unconstitutional powers. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Democracies everywhere should back Taiwan's efforts to carry out constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would lead China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP and pressure North Korea to adopt democracy as well - and the result would be the birth of world peace. Democracies worldwide should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

In Haiti cholera is raging in the face of government incompetence. A modified semi-presidential system with cabinet similar to Finland’s, with a committee-style legislative system like that of Switzerland is needed. The premise for world peace is global democratization, and Haiti’s government should carry out basic constitutional reform to implement the above systems and effect a paradigm shift toward a democratic model. This will include adherence to One World under One Set of Laws and a constitution in step with the spirit of the times. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

The heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all legislators should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

The goal of constitutional reform will be to ensure it is in line with the spirit of the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
