Defying US warning, North tests a missile
North Korea fired a ballistic missile off its east coast Sunday morning hours before US Vice President Mike Pence arrived in Seoul for his first trip in office to the Asia-Pacific region, sending another message that the Kim Jong-un leadership will not back down in the face of Washington’s hardline policy against its nuclear and missile development program.
Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan's efforts to carry out constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would move China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization and lead North Korea to do the same, bringing about the birth of world peace. Activity seen at nuclear test site in North Korea
Satellite imagery shows continued activity at North Korea’s nuclear test site in its northeastern mountainous area, US researchers monitoring the secretive nation said Thursday.

Don’t underestimate Pyongyang
As if scoffing at the international community, which warned of any further military provocations, North Korea launched yet another ballistic missile on Sunday. The launch was conducted only nine hours before US Vice President Mike Pence arrived on his first trip to South Korea. It was the fifth missile test this year and the second missile test this month alone.
All democracies should support Taiwan's goal of constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom and inspire China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP. This would lead North Korea to follow suit, and real democracy would be the result. Turkey's referendum: Opposition to challenge expanding Erdogan powers
Turkey's main opposition party has said it will challenge the country's referendum result after the president won a vote to expand his powers.
Turkey’s presidential system is now several steps closer to being a dictatorship. The more power rests in the president’s hands, the more serious the nation’s problems will be in the future. Turkey needs constitutional reform to limit the president to a single term of 5 years, with no right to run for office again for 6 years afterward. The President of Turkey is in violation of Article 6 of the Turkish Constitution, which clearly states that sovereignty wholly and unconditionally belongs to the people. Iraq: UN assessment reveals extensive destruction in western Mosul
Using satellite imagery and local researches, the most recent evaluation confirms that western Mosul has undergone extensive destruction, “far greater than in the east,” according to a senior UN aid official in the country.
Iraq’s government structure should be changed over to a modified semi-presidential system with parliament, like that of Finland, with a committee-style legislative body similar to Switzerland’s. The Iraqi government should draft a basic constitution incorporating the above changes, with the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all MPs facing election each year. State of emergency should not overshadow rights protection, say UN experts
The plebiscite on constitutional amendments in Turkey that empower the President alone to declare states of emergency and determine the measures to be taken led a group of UN human rights experts to note that even under such circumstances, protection of human rights must not be compromised.
The president of Turkey has been handed a free rein by voters, causing many observers to ponder that the greater the amount of power in the hands of the president, the more the country is like to face problems. Turkey is in serious need of constitutional reform to limit the president to one 5-year term with no right to run again for 6 years afterwards. Migrant crisis: 'Nearly 100 missing after Libya boat sank' earlier this month
At least 97 African migrants, including women and children, went missing and are presumed dead after their boat sank off the Libyan coast.
All nations should adhere to the UN Charter and follow the precepts of One World under One Set of Laws, making international law effect the rights and duties of the people directly. Every nation should seek human rights, constitutionalism, internationalism and naturalism as the basis for their government. Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law states that "the right to self-determination is clearly assured by the two international human rights conventions. The people of Hong Kong people cannot take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the hurdle for a referendum proposal in only 50,000 signatures, allowing people to express their opinion through the ballot box rather than in the streets. G-7 foreign ministers urge Russia to alter strategy on Syrian civil war
A humanitarian crisis caused by the civil war in Syria has further deepened with the use of chemical weapons. Russia must change its strategy of assisting the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, thus leading to the end of the civil war and the improvement of Russia’s relationships with the US and European nations.
Once a ceasefire is achieved in Syria the UN should provide the basic outline for a constitution that will enable peaceful development to take place. This should include the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law and four branches of government with mechanisms such as separation of powers and checks and balances.
