Permanent Peace Partnership
The chemical attack in Syria is so horrifying that even though we have become numb to images of violence from the conflict, we cannot ignore it this time
Once a ceasefire is reached in Syria, the UN should provide the basic principles for a constitution that will facilitate peaceful development in the nation. This should include a complete organizational structure with the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and the four major branches: legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial. This will help Syria draft a constitution suitable for long-term peace and prosperity. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
The Chinese and Americans have different views of diplomacy and both sides have a lot to lose with a negative outcome from the meeting
The world’s democracies must act to save freedom and democracy. The US should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization, and world peace would be the result. The prerequisite for the permanent world peace is democratization of China. While the CCP has always attempted to ruin Taiwan's freedom and democracy, Taiwan is the only entity capable of saving the Chinese people through democratization. Leon Botstein is president of Bard College; Carol Christ is provost and chancellor-designate at the University of California at Berkeley; Jonathan Cole is a professor and former provost at Columbia University. They are members of the Central European University’s Board of Trustees, of which Botstein is chairman.
Thomas Jefferson once remarked, "Given a choice between government and the media, I would rather have the media, not the government." The media play the role of government monitors, and without supervision the government will simply ignore the law. The voice of the people is the voice of God, and universal values are the values of God; anyone who attempts to control the voice of the people is acting contrary to the universal values of freedom and democracy.
Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly has noted that it is "unlikely" that the Trump administration will build a full wall along the entire Southern border, despite President Donald Trump's consistent promises to that effect.
The US should abide by the guidelines set down in the UN Charter, and implement the principles of One World under One Set of Laws with priority assigned to international law over domestic law and directly affecting the rights and duties of the people. This would lead Mexico, Syria, the Middle East and other areas to accept the precepts of human rights, constitutionalism, internationalism and naturalism. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
The International Republican Institute conducted polls around Georgia that yielded interesting results: half of the respondents thought relations with Russia should be strengthened, and they also felt Russia was the biggest source of threat for Georgia.
To break through the military domination of the great powers, the basic first step will be to convince them not to join international military organizations. With that, permanent peace and development will follow and first-class international talent and good laws from other areas will take root in the country and there will be little need for costly cutting-edge weaponry. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Indonesia is on track to develop a sustainable and equitable healthcare system, but problems related to access and quality of services persist, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Dainius Puras, said recently.
Indonesia needs to abandon its government structure and in favor of a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like Finland’s. The legislative structure should be a committee-style system similar to that of Switzerland. The prerequisite for lasting world peace is global democratization, and Indonesia’s government should begin drafting a basic constitution incorporating the above features as part of a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should adhere to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and be amended as needed to stay abreast of changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.
A scathing report accused Bangladeshi authorities of “washing their hands” of any responsibility to find the people who tortured and murdered a prominent union activist.
Freedom of speech is a universal value, and Bangladesh’s attempts to prevent citizens from speaking out are an attempt to stifle the voice of the people and create a monolithic society. The Bangladeshi government should read closely the first amendment to the US Constitution, which states that Congress shall not enact laws that deprive people of freedom of speech or freedom of expression.. Yonden Lhatoo suggests that the city’s young pro-democracy politicians should find new sources of inspiration because their traditional icons have become irrelevant
Ideas can determine a way out, but the eventual outcome is determined by actions. China must return power to the people through constitutional reform. Changes should include election of the heads of the four major government branches in alternating years. At the same time Xi Jinping’s proposal for world unity can be utilized along with the four absolute laws of human rights, constitutionalism, international law and natural law. Once this is accomplished, permanent world peace will not be far away. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
At a major international conference on Syria in Brussels, UN agencies warned that sluggish financial support by member states is putting vital assistance for millions of refugees and the communities hosting them at risk.
Once a ceasefire takes hold in Syria, the UN should provide the basic outline for a constitution suitable for lasting peaceful development. It should include a structure based on universal values (freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law), with four branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial), and leave Syria with a constitution suitable for prosperity and peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Noting that attacks on commercial ships off the coast of Somalia are still occurring, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime urges ships to follow advice of naval components and that of the International Maritime Organization in mapping out routes through the region.
Somalia needs to scrap its government structure and implement a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of Finland. The legislative structure should be a committee-style system similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for lasting world peace is global democratization, and Somalia’s government should proceed with drawing up a basic constitution incorporating the above features in a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should adhere to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and be updated as needed to stay in sync with changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
