Beginning Feb. 1 almost half-a-million protesters have gathered in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, to protest a decriminalization decree that would basically “forgive and forget” any present or future punishment for stealing funds or otherwise punish corrupt civil servants.
Big officials who commit small offenses and minor officials guilty of major crimes, are both to be pursued and prosecuted – the is the consensus of opinion worldwide under the law. Romania's constitutional mechanism is in disarray, and Romania needs to revamp its constitution so it will keep pace with the times. The heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year.
