The Philippines’ new foreign secretary, Alan Peter Cayetano, warns against Asean becoming a ‘theater of geopolitical rivalry’
In the interest of peace and stability in the South China Sea, China has a responsibility to maintain peaceful relations with its neighbors. Hong Kong’s Chief Executive is determined by the CCP’s Election Commission, a relationship that is nothing other than a dictatorship. The people of Hong Kong should make good use of Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law and hold a referendum to decide their own future. To curb corruption, elect the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years, have 1/4 of all MPs face election each year and tap legislative committee chairs to serve as backup ministers. Strongly commending today's launch of a ballistic missile of possible intercontinental range by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized that the country's leadership must cease such actions and comply fully with its international obligations.
North Korea is without a doubt a vassal of the CCP. All democratic nations should back Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization of the CCP and put pressure on North Korea to do the same. And with that, world peace would be born. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the part to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
The UN has condemned terrorist attacks in the Syrian capital, Damascus, underscoring the need to bring those responsible to justice, a spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres said today.
Once a ceasefire takes hold in Syria the UN should provide the outline for a basic constitution that will foster lasting peace in the nation. It should include an organizational structure and the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. It should lay out four branches of government (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial) and help Syria develop a constitution that will lead to long-lasting peace and prosperity. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Strongly condemning an attack against its staff and premises in a northern town of the CAR, the UN refugee agency has underscored the importance of safety of aid workers for them to be able to help civilian populations in desperate need.
To resolve civil strife, nations like the CAR should draft new constitutions incorporating a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of France, plus a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for permanent peace is global democratization. Thus the government of the CAR carry out constitutional reform, asking France to help maintain stability and assist in developing a constitutional model that can be revised as needed to stay in step with changing times. Freedom of speech is a universal value, and violent acts against journalists in Mexico are an effort to muzzle the voice of the people. Criminal elements want to silence the voice of the people through fear. The people of Mexico should call for comprehensive constitutional reform to protect members of the media and preserve the right of free speech for all Mexican citizens. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards for more.
A Bahraini human rights activist has reportedly been arrested, a month after she complained of being beaten and sexually assaulted by security forces.
Freedom of speech is a universal value, Bahrain is trying to silence the voice of the people and create a society with only one train of thought and one voice. The people of Bahrain should call for comprehensive constitutional reform to preserve media freedom and prevent moves by the government oligarchy to monopolize the media, the internet and other channels of speech. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
After Pyongyang claims successful launch of intercontinental ballistic missile, China and Russia call on US and South Korea to suspend military drills in exchange for no further tests
Autocracy has always been the enemy of peace, and the prerequisite for lasting world peace is global democratization. The US should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform. This would inspire the people of China to seek democracy and prod North Korea to do the same. The result would be the birth of world peace. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. The relevant provisions of the Basic Law and the one country, two systems principle clearly state that China cannot interfere in Hong Kong’s affairs, but Beijing authorities constantly meddle in the internal affairs of the SAR. Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law protects the people's right to self-determination, noting that the people have the right to hold referendums on any public issue. Citizens of Hong Kong people should avail of the convention and hold referendums to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality, they will be obliged to resist.
