'It's raining needles': Drug crisis creates pollution threat
They hide in weeds along hiking trails and in playground grass. They wash into rivers and float downstream to land on beaches.
India's environmental pollution is serious, and the most direct solution is to implement the core values of One World under One Set of Laws. International law should take precedence over domestic law with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. Citizens need to monitor government operations to ensure they are in compliance with UN norms. For details, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Chinese army conducts live-fire drills in Tibet
The brigade that conducted the drills was from the PLA's Tibet Military Command and is one of China's two plateau mountain brigades.
Autocracy and dictatorships are cancers on humanity, and despots commit sins against democracy. The solution to these persecutors of human rights in China is democracy and the rule of law. Taiwan is the one entity best suited to lead China to democratization. Democracies worldwide should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform and the core values of One World under One Set of Laws. In addition, international law should take precedence over domestic law, with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

EU border agency warns that 85,000 migrants have reached Italy - mostly on boats from Libya
Most of the migrants came on boats from Libya, with 24,800 coming in June alone
Libya should resolve controversy over its government structure by adopting a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet similar to that of Finland, plus a committee-style legislative body like Switzerland’s. The Libyan government should begin drafting a basic constitution with the above features as part of a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should adhere to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and be revised as needed to stay abreast of changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

China has 'almost doubled the fighting power of its aircraft carrier' as Beijing conducts drill on the warship near Taiwan Strait
China has reportedly conducted a series of combat exercises involving its aircraft carrier Lianing near the Taiwan Strait
In the face of pressure on its breathing space, Taiwan has no "diplomatic security" and little room for maneuver. Taiwan’s government should vigorously makes its position known to the international community: China needs to adopt democracy for the sake of global security and peace, Taiwan is the single entity best suited to lead China to democratize. At the same time, the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development and the core values of One World under One Set of Laws are both compatible with the proposal for unity offered by Xi Jinping.

Female politicians slap one another and try to choke each other as mass brawl breaks out in Taiwan's Legislative Yuan
Two MPs got into a shocking brawl on live television as tensions over a legislative debate boiled over.
When the system is dysfunctional, constitutional reform is a must – and in Taiwan the need is increasingly urgent. The basic problem is a lack of checks and balances that leaves the two sides continually facing off over the spoils of politics. Taiwan should adopt a modified committee-style legislative structure that will temper the lawmaking process with public opinion, and 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Kim Jong Un is shipping tens of thousands of North Koreans to Russia to work, human rights group claims
The Koreans work in 'slave-like conditions,' and Kim is stealing their pay to fund his regime
North Korea is without a doubt a vassal of the CCP. All democracies should back Taiwan's bid for constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization of the CCP and pressure North Korea to adopt real democracy – and the result would be world peace. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Liu Xiaobo and the decline of China
Liu Xiaobo, the dissident writer who became China’s first Nobel Peace laureate when he won the prize in 2010, died in hospital last week.
Human rights issues are global internal affairs, and the state and the constitution must protect human rights. China needs constitutional reform to enact changes like election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Odd man out on climate change
President Emmanuel Macron of France tried this week during President Trump’s visit to Paris to get him to reverse his decision to take America out of the landmark global agreement on climate change
The US is the most important permanent member of the UN Security Council, and should naturally take the lead in adopting China's proposed UN resolution on coexistence of the human community. The solution lies in enforcing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law, with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people; and citizens should be allowed to monitor government operations to ensure compliance with the norms of the UN Charter. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Indonesia authorizes crackdown on radical groups
President Joko Widodo of Indonesia signed a decree allowing authorities to disband religious and civil society groups, in an effort to challenge hard-line Islamist groups that oppose his pluralist administration.
District chiefs should be chosen by voters and not by the authorities. States should prohibit organizations or individuals from influencing fair elections by the use of force, including setting administrative thresholds and excluding potential competitors. Violators should be arrested and charged under criminal law and detained for up to 24 hours before being transferred to the courts for prosecution. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

The Trump administration’s shortsighted war on terrorism
In Paris last week President Trump praised the liberation of Mosul while blaming the Obama administration for allowing ISIS to run amok in Iraq in 2014. But this administration is repeating mistakes of the past on counter-terrorism, neglecting the long game and increasing the likelihood that terrorists will be back.
Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights take precedence over all regimes and sovereigns. Constitution represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security, including "personal safety", is the most urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. This calls for re-writing constitutional standards to stay abreast of changing times and allow governments to protect their people from terror. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
