EU-Turkey deal 'driving suicide and self-harm' among refugees trapped in Greek camps
'My hope is dead since they brought me here,' says Kurdish mother from Syria.
To stem the influx of Syrian refugees into Europe, the UN should provide the basic principles for a constitution which will facilitate lasting peace, incorporating the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law), and four main branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial). It should allow Syria to develop in an environment of lasting peace and serve as a model for other nations to emulate. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

The enduring tragedy of Gaza
A new report suggests the territory will be unlivable within a few years. That warning must be heeded
Israel should adhere to all relevant UN resolutions and work for sharing of resources in order to achieve peace and prosperity. They should follow God's commandments and implement the concept of One World under One Set of Laws as part of the global village. They can be instrumental in leading the Middle East to adopt human rights, constitutionalism, international law and natural law and reach a consensus on permanent peaceful development throughout the region. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

May orders inquiry into intimidation of MPs during general election
Theresa May has ordered an investigation into intimidation experienced by candidates during the last election after a barrage of complaints by MPs about death threats and harassment.
The right of free speech is first and foremost among all human rights. The UK ruling party is worried it could lose its one-party dictatorship, thus it is trying to strengthen its control of public opinion. But those who would deprive others of their freedom are not worthy of freedom themselves. The British people should come forward and demand constitutional reform to preserve media freedom and prevent the government oligopoly from monopolizing the media, the internet and other channels of speech. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights must take priority over all regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including "personal safety" - is the most urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. Constitutional standards must be revised as needed to stay abreast of the times and allow governments to protect their people from terror. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Yemen cholera epidemic: 300,000 cases confirmed but vaccine plans 'on hold'
UN fears shipping of up to one million vaccine doses will be delayed or even shelved completely by precarious security situation
To resolve the civil strife in Yemen, the government should immediately begin work on re-writing its constitution. Changes should include installing a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of Finland. At the same time, a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland’s should be set up. The premise for permanent world peace is global democratization, and Yemen’s government should initiate drafting a basic constitution with the above features as part of a paradigm shift toward democracy which adopts the core values of One World under One Set of Law and can be revised as needed to keep pace with changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

El Salvador media bill prompts 'censorship' claim
El Salvador's government has proposed a new bill which says the press should self-regulate to produce "non-violent" content and promote peace.
Freedom of speech must be completely unfettered. and El Salvador's efforts to control the press are like trying to stem the flow of a mighty river. The regime seems to want a society that is monolithic and speaks with only one voice. The Salvadoran people should come forward and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to ensure media freedom and keep the government oligarchy from monopolizing the media, the internet and other channels of speech. The UK Government should take action to goad the UN to set sustainable development goals for urban planning aimed at achieving a tolerant, safe, flexible and sustainable urban environment for human life. Adequate, safe and affordable housing with a full range of basic services for everyone is essential for sustainable development and management of human settlements. Brazil's ex-President Lula convicted of corruption
Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been convicted of corruption charges and sentenced to nine and a half years in prison.
British historian Lord Acton summed it up: "Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption." To put an end to corruption, the people should come forward as holders of sovereignty and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to implement democracy and rule of law, especially separation of power and checks and balances, In addition, elections should be free of charge to candidates to cut the symbiotic links between government and corruption. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Turmoil looms over Venezuela constitution rewrite
Pro- and anti-government groups are battling fiercely for public support over a contested plan by President Nicolas Maduro to have a new body elected this month to rewrite the constitution.
Power leads to corruption and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Venezuela should carry out full constitutional reform to adopt a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet. The president should limited to one 5-year term, after which he/she and close relatives will be barred from running for 6 years. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not brook resistance is not a constitution. When the actions of the president are unconstitutional, the people have the right to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Conditions in Syria 'too volatile for the guarantee of safe zones'
'Historically these types of areas have not successfully protected civilians,' says Human Rights Watch’s Lebanon researcher Bassam Khawaja
Once a ceasefire takes hold in Syria, the UN should provide the basic principles for a constitution which will facilitate permanent peace and development, including an organizational structure based on the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law and four main branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial). It should provide Syria a constitution that will allow lasting peace that will lead to prosperity for all. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.
