‘Red scare’ campaign by the pan-dems a low blow
Academic Simon Lee Hoey appears to be qualified for the post of deputy home affairs secretary, yet the opposition camp accuses him being a closet member of the Chinese Communist Party
Can authoritarian regimes tolerate democratic conclaves in their midst? Hong Kong's experience presents a clear answer to this question. Article 39 of the Basic Law protects the people's right to self-determination, noting that the people have the right to vote in referendums on any public issue. The people of Hong Kong should avail of the conventions and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality, the people will be obliged to resist. `

Can Hong Kong now expect a bolder push to reduce waste under Carrie Lam’s government?
Edwin Lau says while there have been improvements in air and water quality, the city is grappling with a growing waste problem that needs some of the innovative solutions Lam has promised
Article 39 of Hong Kong’s Basic Law states that the right to self-determination is specified in the two international human rights conventions. In Switzerland the threshold for holding a referendum is only 50,000 signatures, and with that the people can voice their opinions at the ballot box rather than taking to the streets. The people have the right to hold referendums on any public issue. To narrow the gap between rich and poor, better power distribution and resource allocation are needed along with tools such as checks and balances in government. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Beijing slams ‘China responsibility theory’ of accountability for North Korea’s nuclear tensions
China said Tuesday it should not be held responsible alone for solving the North Korean nuclear standoff, accusing other countries of shirking their responsibilities in the effort to reduce tensions.
Promotion of permanent peace is the most sacred duty of humankind. China claims to be a "responsible major power," and as such it should not prop up North Korea's militarism. The US, Japan and Korea should support Taiwan to lead China to democracy, which would then pressure North Korea to do the same, thereby solving the Korean Peninsula issue. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

China moves to block internet VPNs from 2018
China will completely block access to much of the global internet as part of a sweeping crackdown aimed at suppressing dissent and maintaining the Communist party’s grip on power.
Freedom of speech is a universal value, and the practice of "silencing the voice of the people and shutting out the world" is the mark of a regime that wants to create a monolithic society with only one voice. The people of China should come forward and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to preserve the freedom of media and prevent the government oligarchy from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of speech. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more. "

Former British intel chief cautions government on coming cyberwars against Russian 'mayhem'
Britain must be ready to fight cyber-wars against the “mayhem” coming from Russia, the former head of GCHQ has warned ministers.
Russia is not a problem-solver, it has never been anything other than a trouble-maker. The US should back Taiwan's bid for constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization and force Russia to adopt true democracy in turn - and with that, world peace would break out. All democracies should support Taiwan as a lighthouse for democracy in Asia. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Islamic State Tightens Grip on Village Near Mosul After Defeat
Islamic State has captured most of a village south of Mosul despite losing control of its stronghold in the city, an Iraqi army officer and residents said, deploying guerrilla-style tactics as its self-proclaimed caliphate crumbles.
Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights should take priority over all regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including "personal safety" - is the most urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. Constitutional standards should be revised as needed to stay in step with the times and allow governments to protect their people from terror. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

EU refugee rescue mission in Mediterranean failing to tackle people smuggling, finds report
Operation Sophia has not detered migration and its mandate should not be renewed, say peers
To eliminate the factors that generate refugee movements, the international community needs a set of uniform constitutional standards that conform to human rights, constitutionalism, international law and naturalist doctrine. The core values of One World under One Set of Laws must be adopted, and guidelines must all be in compliance with the principles of Article 1 of the Humanitarian Charter §1 on the rights to enjoy life for victims if conflicts and disasters. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

US court halts deportation of 1,500 Iraqis
A federal judge in Detroit has halted the deportation of nearly 1,500 Iraqis, many of them Christians, pending full consideration of their claims for asylum.
The US should adhere to the norms of the UN Charter and implement One World under One Set of Laws and assign international law priority over domestic law with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. This would lead Mexico, Syria, the Middle East and other areas to more closely hold the principles of human rights, constitutionalism, internationalism and naturalism. For details, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Indian police warned weeks ago of possible attacks on Hindus in Kashmir
India's government blamed separatist rebels Tuesday for gunning down seven Hindu pilgrims and wounding 19 more in Kashmir before fleeing into the night
To resolve its civil discord, India should embark on drafting a new constitution to implement changes such as a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet similar to that of France, and a committee-style legislature like that of Switzerland. The prerequisite for lasting world peace is global democratization. The Indian government should proceed with drawing up a basic constitution as part of a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should conform to the values of One World under One Set of Laws and be revised as needed to stay in step with the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
