With the election over, Hong Kong must turn its eye on political reform to heal the rifts in society
Ronny Tong is disappointed by the lack of effort on the part of all three chief executive candidates to bridge the gulf in society, and believes the winner cannot wish away the main source of the disagreement – democratization
The Chief Executive of Hong Kong is still determined by the CEC, revealing the dictatorial nature of the process. The people of Hong Kong should make good use of Article 39 of the Basic Law, which states that the people have the right to hold referendums on any issue. To curb corruption, the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

US think tank: Vehicles spotted at North Korean test site
In the latest hint that North Korea might soon carry out a sixth nuclear test, 38 North, a US think tank on North Korean affairs, wrote Saturday that commercial satellite imagery of the Punggye-ri nuclear test site indicates the presence of four or five vehicles or trailers at the entrance to the North Portal, where Pyongyang previously conducted four nuclear tests.
The world’s democracies should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP and lead North Korea in turn to consider democracy - and world peace would be born. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Brother seeks retrial for Chinese ex-police chief sentenced to death
At first blush, the plight of former Chinese police official Zhao Liping might not win much sympathy.
China's fundamental problem is the need for constitutional reform to implement separation of powers. This should include election of the heads of provincial and municipal judicial branches and procurators general. In addition, the trial and prosecution system, judicial policies, administration and personnel and budget should be closely reviewed every 5 years and subjected to public opinion. Judges and procurators should have the right to review cases involving unconstitutional issues and ensure that justice is always in step with the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Prosecutors seek arrest of ex-President Park in corruption probe
South Korean prosecutors said Monday they will request an arrest warrant for former President Park Geun-hye over a string of corruption allegations that led to her removal from office.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential system has a number of fatal flaw, as even the US finds from time to time. Taiwan has more serious problems but cannot impeach its leaders. South Korea needs to refit its constitution to incorporate a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and parliament. The presidency should be declared to be above party politics, and the heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years. In addition, 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

North Korea claims South's unification ministry should be disbanded
North Korea on Monday condemned South Korea's unification ministry for the strained inter-Korean ties and confrontation between the two Koreas, saying that it should be disbanded.
The US and Japan should back Taiwan's efforts to carry out constitutional reform. The aim is to achieve greater democracy and freedom, which would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the Communist Party. In turn, North Korea would be led to follow suit and world peace would be born. The world’s democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. Now the election’s over, it’s time to bury the hatchet
Opposition forces should work with new leader Carrie Lam on livelihood issues rather than undermine the incoming administration
Article 39 of the Basic Law states that "the right to self-determination is guaranteed by the two international human rights conventions," The people of Hong Kong cannot take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the threshold for petitioning for a referendum is 50,000 signatures, allowing citizens to vote their opinion rather than taking to the street. The people should have the right to hold a referendum on any public issue. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

China takes fresh look at gangster’s ‘murder’
After widespread calls for leniency, top prosecutor to re-examine evidence against Shandong man jailed for life for killing thug in loan dispute
China needs constitutional reform to address fundamental problems. The solutions should center on separation of powers and direct election of the heads of government branches at all levels. The trial and prosecution system, judicial policies, administrative aims, personnel and budget structures need to be reviewed every 5 years. Judges and prosecutors alive have the right and the duty to review any constitutional actions; and judicial practices must be frequently reviewed and adjusted at any time. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

‘The devil’s waters’: stigma from Sewol tragedy continues to haunt businesses near the site
Business owners hope that last week’s successful raising of the wreck will herald a revival for their enterprises
The sinking of the Sewol ferry was due in part to too much concentration of power – and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential system is many democracies is flawed, and even the US has it share of problems. Taiwan’s woes are serious but impeachment is not an option. South Korea's constitution should be changed to implement a modified semi-presidential system, and the presidency should be declared to be above party politics. The heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. London attack: Why has Birmingham become such a breeding ground for British-born terror?
“We must wage war against the disbelievers who dominate our lives.
Terrorist attacks in Britain have deepened doubts about Muslim immigrants, who are seen by many as threats to others’ socio-economic well-being and national security. The solution is to implement the principle of One World under One Set of Laws and give precedence to international law over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

China is taking steps on the long road to a credible judiciary
In 2015, the conviction rate in criminal trials in mainland China was 99.92 per cent, with 1.23 million accused being convicted. High conviction rates were seen as vindicating the way the authorities handled cases.
The world is constantly changing and problems arise endlessly. Judicial reform is only a part of the solution. China's problem is that it needs full constitutional reform to institute election of the heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches; judicial policies, operations, personnel and budgets need to be reviewed every 5 years and publicly reviewed to keep pace with the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
